When will there ever be a communist society?!

China isn't communist in the strictest sense. The USSR certainly wasn't!

    Short answer = Never.

The closest portrayal of an (ideal) Communist society is the Federation from Star Trek and the story behind that involves humanity suffering a cataclysmic Third World War.

yup unless something brought everyone together, itll never work

but doesnt mean its a bad idea, to an extent a socialist economy can be very beneficial for the people who live there

When will there ever be a democratic society, as Aspartame said, communism would only ever work if a few people went to an island and that is the same with any form of Government, nothing any form of Government provides will ever suit the needs of every person adhereing to that government.

No , human nature needs competition and a dog-eat-dog style market economy.

    Define "human nature".

lol, how long have you got?!

I think some humans like power. In communism there's a gap at the top for said human to seize power. I think humans also like to hold someone accountable, or to have someone responsible to ask for advice, this person normally ends up in a position of power which can then be abused either by that person or in that person's name. Which therefore defeats the object of a collective society with equal responsibility.

Everyone's got to like it, and if a few don't then you have to make them "like" it.

    Hence communism fails.

I suppose if a few people went to live on an island, then it'd work for a small group...but nothing more.

You're getting confused with Stalinism. Communism/Marxism in its true form has never been implemented.

Nope... society is tailored to keep the rich on top and the poor submissive & controlled.

China used to be Stalinist but it's now nothing more than a capitalist dictatorship.

Yes, though overlooked, except in the cuban missle crisis back in kennedy's day. Cuba was embarrasing for the US, a communist state right on their doorstep.

    true communism will never work.
Why? Humans are competetive and meritocratic. Why would anyone want to be a supervisor when they get paid the same mopping floors and at the end of the month they won't be supervisor anymore? Where's the ambition to succeed?

Cuba is the closest to being "communist". And Castro bumps off anyone who disagrees with him.

The reason why Communism will never work is explained in Animal Farm. Which is ironic in itself, given that Orwell himself was trying to only satirise the CCCP relvolution.

but the same could be said for a true free market without governments, as theres always going to be someone who feels the need to control a region, and govern the people in it, and therefore removing any real competition thus making a compeltly capitalist society unworkable either

thats why somewhere in between is the most workable :D
