Yes I know it should be in health but I'm just wondering..

I heard you can put super glue on cuts to seal them.. done it a few times but is it actually harmfull/dangerous to put it on them?

It's a most definite no. Too many chemicals made to fix man made substances, natural substances [bar human flesh] etc.

Obviously it could seal cuts, it being sticky and all... but that doesn't mean you should use it for that purpose. you definitely shouldn't.

Well someone just gave me this link.

    http://www.healthcentral.com/drdean/deanfulltexttopics.cfm?ID=15731&storytype=DeanQuestions

    Questions

Is Super Glue A Good Way To Heal Cuts?

Clyde in New Orleans: My girlfriend works in a restaurant, and she's around a lot of knives, so occasionally she cuts herself.

When I suggested that she put super glue on her cuts, she looked at me like I was from another planet. Didn't I hear about super glue on your show?

    Dr. Dean: You might have.

Actually, super glue is great for a superficial cut. You don't put it inside the wound, just use it to hold the skin together.

Veterinarians caught on to super glue long before doctors did. After much resistance, it is finally being used in emergency rooms. Patients don't need stitches, and therefore there are no stitches to remove. Think of how much easier this is on kids.

Super glue manufacturers are now making a type for emergency room use, but I don't think it's much different from the regular kind.

Doctors are concerned that if people start gluing their own cuts, the wound won't get adequate care. Super glue should never be used on a deep cut because it seals the outside of the wound. It will hold the surface skin together, but leave a gaping space underneath. That's not in your best interest if you have cut a little bit of muscle, tendon, ligament, or nerve.

My worry is that people won't wash the cut properly before the put the glue on it. A cut should be thoroughly washed and quickly closed, if you're going to close it at all. Once a wound has been open for a few hours, you've got to leave it open or risk sealing an infection inside.

Most of us know a serious cut from a minor one, but if there is any question whatsoever, always go to the emergency room.

    Thats..... Interesting...

fact of the day: john frusciante superglued the cuts/holes in his fingers (which formed because he had to play for so long etc) whilst filming the "give it away" video.

    but yeah...dont do it :eek2:

You must have a shread of intelligence up there rudeboyz, because you manage to annoy me in ways I didn't think I could even be annoyed before.

However, taking evidence from this thread and countless others into account; I retract that statement.

    Hey,
I was just looking for info on dressings and things and I did find a reference to wounds being sealed with "medical glue (superglue)", so I don't think it means Bostik.

Sorry I lost the URL (my PC crashed) but it was something to do with Essex medical services.

Oh I must remember that one...

Hellfire. if the cut is superficial, why use glue at all? It's not something which would be stitched and the glue won't prevent infection, so why bother?
