How do i tell if i have depression?

I know im not normal because im always so paranoid, and if i keep going on like this im scared i'll lose my boyfriend and that would make me 10 times worse

Ive searched the site and found these symptoms (with a star means it happens to me) A symptom i get all the time which wasnt in the list was crying. I cry all the time when im alone

-Feeling guilty, bad, unlikeable, or not good enough *
-Feeling empty inside *
-Feeling useless or unable to cope with life *
-Feeling bored all the time *
-Increased feelings of anxiety *
-Can't see a future for yourself
-Thinking everything is pointless
-Thinking life is not worth living
-Thoughts of death or suicide
-Wanting to go to sleep and never wake up again
-Especially low mood in the mornings *
-Feeling more irritable, frustrated, or aggressive than usual *
-Trouble concentrating on things, poor memory *
-Loss of energy, tired all the time *
-Changed sleep pattern - difficulty getting to sleep, bad nightmares, waking in the night, waking up too early, or sleeping *much more than usual
-Spending less time socialising with friends or family *
-Loss of sexual desires
-Changed eating pattern - loss of appetite and weight loss, or * -comfort eating*
-Getting lower grades than usual at school, college, or university *
-Not going to school/college/work, or becoming disruptive
-Becoming a hypochondriac, worrying lots about illness
-More headaches, backaches or stomach aches than you normally get *
-Turning to alcohol or drugs to try to make yourself feel better

Anyone know what i can do :(:(

yeah i reckon you should get to the docs ASAP try and make a effort because these things need to get treated before you feel even worse.

You could always try st. johns wort i think you could get it from holland and barrett some people say that can help with depression but i doubt it would do a lot in your case.

your GP should be more than happy to help! Whether you need anti-depressants, counselling or both they should be able to give you the advice you need.

St. John's Wort is all very well, but don't be tempted to take it with a-ds and certainly don't use it in place of seeing a professional.

You can just go to a doctors near where you go to uni tho can't you?

Taking the first step by going to the GP is hard but important. You sound as if you already know that's what you need to do!

People i know who have taken it have felt better not on a downer.
There is not much point in just taking tablets though, you need to get to the root of the problem & deal with it.
    Go see a doctor.

    Hiya
First of all, well done for making that first step and talking about your problems here - it's often easier to bury your head in the sand and pretend it's not happening. However, if you really want to shake this, you're going to have to apply that same bravery in 'real' life. Much as confronting your GP is hard, it is the best thing you can do right now. If you don't have a GP near your uni, you should be able to join one.
If this isn't possible, NHS Direct may be able to offer you some advice:
    NHS Direct
Advice and information on all health-related issues.
    Telephone: 0845 46 47
    Website: www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk

If you really can't face your GP at the moment, there are lots of specialist organisations that are only a phone call away and they won't judge you. try one of the folllowing - I'm sure they'll help you understand the symptoms you are experiencing better and help- you pluck up the courage for that next step.

    Careline
Telephone counselling service for children, young people and adults on any issue, including relationships, depression, mental health, child abuse, bullying, rape and sexual assault, domestic violence, addictions, stress etc.
    Telephone: 020 8875 0500
    www.careline.org.uk

    Depression Alliance
Charity offering information and self-help groups.
    Telephone: 0845 123 23 20; www.depall.org
The helpline is charged at a local rate and will automatically put you through to your nearest office.

    Good luck and take care

Just to say what everyone else has said really...best to go to your GP and talk through it with them. Although I can seriously empathise- I was suffering pretty much the same symptoms as u a little while back (especially the crying!), and I didn't go to the GP, I figured I'd just wait till it passed. Luckily with the help and support of my friends, I'm a lot happier now, but if you're worried it would be a whole lot of help for you to at least settle your mind by seeing your doctor!

    hope that helps

many problems with the boyfriend that cant be fixed so its a matter of time before we split up.
As for uni i dont like anyone here, i feel isolated sitting in my room when im not in lectures. theres nobody to talk to, all i do is look at the clock and count the days until i go home. Its the only thing i can focus on.

Why not e-mail the Samaritans if you don't want to talk to someone on the phone?
    jo@samaritans.org
They'll get back to you in 24 hours at the latest and it's no harder than talking to us lot.

    Take care of yourself.
