why do they live in palaces?

  Yeah, it's tradition from the middle ages and probably before. The crown used to grant titles within the clergy as well as lay titles (Duke etc.). Therefore, as it was an honour they got land and cash (a lot of them were corrupt anyway and took the church taxes) so they could build these palaces. The palaces were obviously passed on so now they come with the job.

  And to this day it hasn't crossed their graciousnesses' minds to sell the palaces and distribute the profits amongst the poor- as their master would no doubt have done.
  
  And don't even get me started on the multi-billion Pound fortune the fat one has down in Rome.

  ...and the followers ...the sheep don't seem to have noticed either, that these religous leaders are standing in opposition to the teachings of jesus. does that make them anti christs?
  ...and the story goes that this jesus is going to come back ...surely these will be the very people who nail him straight back up again ...
