Anyone find the song- Shut Up annoying?

I don't really like many rappers except from Eminem and one or two more but this song is shit. The singers are talentless and the lyrics are shite.

I find it rather amusing. While I hate music snobs ( Bri seems to think I am one), they really aren't as good as they used to be.

But I would be interested who you think are the better lyricists in the hip hop world, even if it is the more commercial side.

Its not really the song as a whole, but surely repeating Shut up all the time isnt really music as such

well its part of the song isnt it. The whole things about them arguing and the chorus is her telling him to shut up (a lot).

It fucking annoys me! It doesn't even make sense

    "I'm crazy/Tryin' to be a lady/I think I'm going crazy

How can you think you're going crazy if you're already crazy? I don't really like them and I don't think they should have been #1 for that long if at all.

    The lyrics are actually:

*And I'm crazy..For tryin to be your lady...I think I'm goin crazy*

Therefore she is crazy for trying to be his lady, which makes her think shes going crazy!

    :D

I got their album for Christmas thanks to Mr. Bri-namite, and it's fucking ACE!

I love "Anxiety" and the wee I-Pod "Hey Mama" song.

Shut Up ultimately owns, though. :)

Far, far better than Eminem. Face it, white guys can't rap.

I think it's really mature. A lot more mature than "Shut Up" and "Where Is The Love".

    Hey, ho. :)

I don't think so. Kiezo isn't right about white guys in general, but he's right about Eminem and various other things *mumbles*

Well OK, he can rap... but he's a bit shit, bascially. There's plenty of far better rap artists out there.

And I don't think he could have a more annoying voice if he tried

black eyed peas arn't really hip-hop / rap. they are slightly watered down to appeal to a wider audience. that is why my auntie likes that 'shut up' song. my auntie, for fucks sake. im not saying they are as talentless as some other 'well know musicians', but it idoesn't exactly have the most thought provoking lyrics, or original music.

anyway.....ive never heard any hip hop i actually like on the radio.

    i listen to stuff like:

aesop rock (a lyrical god, seriously. the amount of metaphors in one album is stupidly good)
dj shadow (instrumental hip hop, recognised as one of the best musicians of the last 10 years)
dj krush (a japenese turntablist, who creates downbeat instrumentals, and sometimes works with rappers, such as The Roots,..etc)
Roots Manuva (the best of UK hip hop, mixing london and jamacian culture)

if none of them float your boat, jurassic 5 are easy to get into.

try out some of them if you consider yourself a 'hip-hop' (i hate that word) fan.

You MUST be DJ Rhimes, you must be! ( If you aren't, and you think I am talking shit, just ignore me)

I was listening to The Private Press just as I opened this thread :thumb:

And surely you like earlier BEP stuff? The current album is very much more commercial/poppy, but I think Shut Up is quite a good song.

And while I have never heard of DJ Krush ( will look out for a CD of theirs, or download something) you are right about Roots Manuva and Jurassic 5. I have never met someone who doesn't like Jurassic 5, and everyone else just haven't heard of them.

However I disagree about hearing good hip hop on the radio, even on commercial radio like Radio 1. But then I must have different tastes to you.
