I have to do an assignment for photography.

Take 10 photos, on a certain theme or idea. I have no ideas whatsoever, no inspiration, has anyone done anything similar and can give me some pointers?

I thought a photography module would be fun, but I find it hard and stressful and I seem to have no talent for it.

We had to do one on colour at college. I took really close up photos of brightly coloured things....like erm....Lego and petals and those fibre optic thingies. Can't remember much else, it was a long time ago!

    A street through the day/week/month.

Pick a busy one, with fast moving traffic - 9am to 7am, you can get some nice "dull" morning shots, as well as some nice light-trails in the evening, if you leave the shutter open on a tripod. Same place throughout the day, make sure you pick interesting moments (approximately an hour apart). Include a bus stop or something, make sure the frame you set is always going to be good. Traffic lights, and make the change of colours patterns.

I dunno. Seems like a good idea.

Go in to the city and take some of traffic, you'll get a slight smudge cos they are moving but that will add to the effect.

I'm sure that's not the technical term for it.

    Drunk posting is very wrong.

hmmm i did a simular thing, i went into the woods and pictured woodland, and went with some mates up to an airsoting site(like paintball) and took pics of them.

If i were doing your proj't, i think i'd use the beach, or the sky over a view, city or something. take a pic at diffrent times, sunrise 2 hours after ect, and then sun set and a night time photo.... or something like that. or take 5 picures of the county side, 5 for a town/city view, and make like a reflection by putting the town reflecting the county.

:) hope it helps you a little...... sarah xxx

when I was in school and had a photography class, i had a assignment similar to yours. I dont know if they have these in the UK, but they have tons of in the US. I took tons of pictures of laundry mats.(the public places people go to wash their laundry) I know its a bit random but I find them very intriguing. So i just found about 20 and took pictures of them. I took photography classes for about 3 years. Here are the basics that I can remember: (its hard to put a few of them into words, but if you get confused, pm me and ill try a little harder to explain it better.)

    Guidlines:

    1. Simplicity- simple and direct objects. Center of interest and the importance of close up.

    2. Rule of thirds- (this one is hard to explain) If you have ever played tic-tac-toe before. its a similar to the shape you make to play the game. like this but bigger --> #. Its boring to have the object in the center. So move the subject to one of the corners but try not to have them in the center.

    3. Line- Diagonal lines are dynamic. The straight line or the "S" curve. Geometric shapes are good.

    4. Balance- arrangements of shapes in a complementary way.

    5. Framing- Its where the objects in the foreground give good depth.

    6. Mergers- AVOID THEM!!! its where you would take a picture of a person who is stading right in front of a pole, so the pole looks like its coming out of their head.

If you need some more info, let me know. I have tons of books on photography.

p.s No one is ever "Good" at photography. practice makes perfect. dont give up- no matter how hard you think it is.

    good luck!
