i think i was in denial when i said it was a nightmare to be fair
probably
of course
1. DMs were cut off incredibly suddenly, after people have built relationships.
2. They are working for some but not others
3. If it's a choice by the platform rather than law, who made it, and do they know anything about community?
4. Most of the active users here are young adults, rather than children, and should be able to make our own decisions about how we communicate.
There will.
Definitely, that's garanteed to happen "we under your frustrations" then come out with a load of rubbish.
I listed 10 negative changes further back in the thread, but I too am struggling to think of positives other than that at the moment.
The safeguarding changes are actually broadly positive as well if you think about them. They improve protection for children and vulnerable adults, even if sometimes things are escalated that I think might be OTT.
Ok fair enough but I feel the advertising needs to happen more across all social media platforms where it might reach young people who want to mod. Safeguarding is definitely important it is number 1 priority but there's surely other ways for safety than pulling pms all together, it's stopping us all from talking to each other, sometimes it feels more comfortable to talk private messages rather than on boards here. It's definitely OTT.
Deleting DMs isn't for safeguarding it's about control, I hate controlling people
There's no advertising about new mods here, there's been the odd story but that's not good enough, what would be great is putting a post on every social media platform that new mods are being recruited. It might be on the website that there's recruitment for volunteers but how's that meant to reach people? The best way to reach young people who potentially want to mod is social media because that's what people use like put a post out and people keep sharing etc.
We’ve met as a team this morning to go over everything you’ve raised, and we’ve asked for an urgent meeting with our developers (who are based in the US, so we’re hoping to speak with them this afternoon) to discuss whether there’s a way to allow you to access your old, historical messages. We understand why this matters to you, and we’re doing all we can to explore that possibility. As soon as we have met with our developers and discussed this with them, we will post the FAQs we have been putting together about this change.
We completely understand your frustrations and how this sudden change has affected you. Please know that we take this seriously and we acknowledge the impact this has had. We are here, we are listening, and we will keep you updated as soon as we know more.
It depends how much it offends the higher ups I guess.
As @Redemption has said, they are very controlling, and I wouldn't be surprised if they deleted everything that goes against their schemes or paints them in a bad picture.
Also, some people can still PM, and most of us can still reply to PMs that we are already sent. If this is going to change, an update would be great so we can wrap up conversations we are having.
I don't think any of this changes how anyone feels. Historical messages were very important to many of us, and someone's just clicked and deleted them all.
It certainly feels like this @JJLemon18. I still have so many questions.. most of them already posted here, but they are worth repeating.
Where in the law does it say a site has to disable DMs entirely for its entire userbase, when a majority of that userbase are legally adults? I think that is my main question.
In addition, some communication is broken somewhere, and people weren't even allowed to wrap things up and cannot see historical messages.
Its sad to see theres still so many people here who havent left already, it shows how much people still believe in this community, how many people need this place. Its sad that whoever owns this site now doesnt see how many lives they are hurting. So much for a mental health peer support site...
I'll check it out thanks
no problem, let me know how it goes
interesting
the only thing is, mind is for those in england / wales only to my knowledge, i know it definitely excludes northern ireland, and very sure it also excludes scotland too, so would that mean that people from outside of england / wales cannot then access side by side too, since it’s a mind service i wonder
oh i had no idea, thats unfortunate
It just says UK as far as I know @shannon_164. I'm in Scotland and I'm using it right now. Most of minds other services do exclude those places, you can't access the groups they run etc and most of the info on their website is for england/wales, but I think anyone in the UK can use SBS.
That said, i'm happy to drop them a DM and ask for you if you want? They also don't geofence.
