Lend a hand for an Elfy Christmas

So, it’s nearly Christmas again. Whether that brings a sense of excitement or dread, we know this winter holiday will mean something different to all of you.
Anyone who’s been around for a year or more will know about our own Christmas and New Year tradition. Every year, we ask people to really go the extra mile to look out for each other as Christmas Elves! This year, we're asking for your help again to keep the boards ticking over during the next few weeks. The boards and chat will be running more or less as usual (more info here), bit this is a great chance to get more involved in the community and it may even be a welcome distraction for those of you that need it during this tricky time of year.
What can elves do to help?
Interested in helping out? Here are some ideas for those of you up for helping make the community the friendliest, most supportive and ‘we’re all in this together’ place on the whole interwebs!
In early January the team will be looking at what you've been doing and who the most active elves have been. We'll be giving you the opportunity to nominate people too!
There will be prizes available, including winning your own General Chat hosting slot, extra PM capacity and more!
Christmas can be tough for lots of us. Let’s pull together to support and look out for each other this holiday season

- Joining a new community can be daunting and a little bit intimidating too. Elves look out for new users in chat and on the boards and make sure they get a warm welcome, helping them to settle in.
- Ever had that feeling that no one has noticed your thread? Elves look out for threads that haven't had a reply and they have a go at responding if they can - it's not always about giving amazing advice but just letting someone know you've listened. Offering a hug can be a great start and it bumps that thread back up to the top to help it get noticed.
- Look out for people needing some extra support in the Christmas Ranty Thread.
- Report spam!
- Report posts where you think a mod needs to come and help out.
- Share your positive messages for other members.
- Create a Christmas Avatar. If you've not done it already then now's the time!
- Nominate posts you think are worthy of 'post of the month' using the nominate button. We'll put up our December poll at the beginning of Jan. Remember, you can nominate a post by clicking the 'Report/Nominate' at the bottom of the post and typing POTM as the reason.
- Start a new thread to keep people chatting over Christmas. Distraction can be great when Christmas at home is a bit of a chore. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Christmas card thread (where we can all share our Christmas greetings with each other)
- Christmas happy/good times sharing thread
- Baking thread
- Christmas jumper competition
- Gift ideas thread
- Favourite Christmas music / films
- Christmas tree photo thread
- Pets vs Christmas decorations thread
