Very ashamed of my racist country and myself

Obviously in the UK, far right protesters are using the English flag against immigrants or non-white individuals (because let’s be honest, you never hear these type of people complaining about a white immigrant) living in this country.
My family are always talking negatively about the immigrants coming in this country.
In my area, a lot of people are putting up English flags as a way to say they don’t want foreigners here. My family are thrilled and as I was on a road trip with my mum, she asked me to record it.
In the past, I have called out my family members for being racist, but they never listen. So there’s no point in trying when they don’t care. I can’t say no because again, they’ll call me woke or sensitive . But I much rather be woke and sensitive than to associate myself with a group that advocates for racism. Whilst recording, I felt an immense sense of shame. I feel sick because I’m participating in this problem.
I can’t tell my family that I disagree with their beliefs because they won’t care.
I feel horrible for any non white person or immigrant right now in England, because the racism is becoming scarily normalised and I hate to see how far it will go.

It can be so tough when your views clash with your family's views. Especially around something as serious as racism and immigration. It sounds like you were really put on the spot during that road trip, caught between standing up for what’s right and trying to keep the peace.
I can really hear how guilty and ashamed you feel for recording in that moment, especially with how much racism and discrimination seem to be rising across the UK. But the fact that you do feel this way says a lot about your values. You clearly care deeply about inclusion and doing what’s right, even when it’s difficult.
You’re not alone in this struggle, and that moment doesn’t define you or your beliefs surrounding racism. The guilt you feel just shows how your believes did not align with your actions. It is a real sign of your commitment to fairness and justice.
