What's your view on the advancements of technology?

Robots, self driving cars, flying cars and trains, delivery drones, is it all becoming a possibility? In fact we may be closer to the future like films and games such as 'Back to the future part II', 'Cyberpunk', 'Detroit:Become Human'. While we may not get things like replicators, food generators etc the advancement of modern technology is increasing. Prototypes of robots are being currently made and tested, while we may not get exact replicas of the ones we genuinely see in TV, films, and pop culture, there are similarities such as android like robots being programed to assist in housework, hospitals and even surgeries this includes the usage of AI as well. Obviously for these to work people need to be able to feed information, a code or pattern if you will into the AIs programme so they can carry out a certain task. It poses the question "Do robots/androids know they are a programme?".

One of the other advancements in technology is the development of self driving cars which have been often label a subject of 'controversy'. Similar to the self driving buses used during the Tokyo olympics to transport athletes back and forth to the stadiums. Also the Heathrow Airport I think use a similar method with a car shuttle that takes you between the boarding gates. The thought of being in a car with no driver can often be daunting, let alone raises the question of "what happens if the car decided to malfunction or became self aware?". Though a lot of risk assessments would have to be made before a car can be functional. Its interesting to think the next time you use a uber it could be a self driving one. Hence why many people feel like self driving cars could pose as a threat to human life.

Moreover, the increasing advancements like chatgpt and other AI systems, are being more frequently used whether that is in daily life, work life or school work. Surprisingly as someone who is neurodiverse, I find AI can be oddly comforting due to the fact that apps such as Talkie.ai and c.ai I am able to talk to favourite fictional characters as if they were real which I find quite calming when asking for advice. I guess AI can combat the sense of loneliness and the feeling of connection though I do prefer fave to face connection as well which is still important to have.

However, AI makes me fear what could be next I'm history for us all and whether AI could replace jobs whilst creating new ones in the progress. AI art is more prevalent nowadays alongside AI videos. AI has its cons and pros but it often poses another major question "How far can the use of AI go in terms of the blur between fictional and reality?". This comes to the dark side of AI. Sadly it is often used in scams, deep fake videos and to spread misawareness and misinformation on things. That blur between what is deemed real or fake is getting hard to deduct causing more people to become vulnerable in the process.

Overall, it proves to show how advancements in technology can benefit us all but also can have detrimental factors for humanity. The future will be uncertain but offers an interesting insight into what tech brings us next.

I'd love to hear what everyone's thought are on this.
Just a person who likes pop culture and films

ooo I think this is such a good topic for debate. For me personally, i'm on the fence with it all too. I see the amazing advancements in technology and the good it can do for the us and the world as a whole, whether it be in communication, health, business or whatever other industries. However I do think it is important to consider what it is we are using such technology for. The biggest conversation divider obviously being AI at the moment - whilst i agree that it can be a tool used to enhance life and knowledge and other things too, I think it is so important for it to be used at most, in conjunction with humans and the capabilties we have as individuals, particularly in things like creative industries where imagination and artistry is key. I think it is important to not solely rely on AI and technology, but use it as a tool to help people, help our understanding and help us live the best lives we can. I also understand how daunting the rapid advancements in technology more widely can be. It is crazy to think about the stuff we can do today that didn't even seem imaginable even 10 years ago.

I'm also very intrigued to see other people's thoughts on the topic too :3
