Hi everybody, my name’s (not) Mausolus. I’m here cus I think it’d do me some good to talk to people in a place where they don’t expect me to be ok. I… hate myself, I guess. Some part of me does. With a passion. I hate every part of me for varyingly valid reasons and I think it would be good to talk with you lot to help me get back on my feet again!

About me though: I like nerdy… uh… stuff (can you swear here?)like planes and space and history and stuff; swearing; the world and all it’s people (anthropology…. so nerd sh*t); and t*ts.

Hello mate. Welcome to the mix. Good to have you here. Nice to know there's another history and nerdy stuff fan here. Out of curiosity, when you say planes.... are we talking planes during the world wars too, cause I've got a collection of about 72 model ww2 planes and I'm a big fan of that era myself.

I do particularly like military aviation (all the coolest machines for all the worst purposes), and though I do like WW2 and WW2 planes, I’m a little more interested in jet fighters of all generations. 72 model planes is an amazing collection! I don’t know if you can post pictures on here but I’d love to see

Pretty cool right. And the Uni I went to even had jet engines donated to them by Rolls Royce which they still have on display. A Rolls Royce Avon 1950 engine, and a Rolls Royce Derwent Mark 8 Turbojet. And yeah, you are right that they were the coolest machines for the worst reasons, but I reckon the jet era may have been delayed by decades if not for the wars you know. What do you reckon?

    Wow! Amazing collection!

It’s definitely true that there’s nothing as good for technology as the military, and that there’s nothing as good for the military as war, but I reckon the delay would be by maybe a decade at most. A lot of research had already been done by 1939, and I think the overwhelming benefits would have become clear. Just the threat of war can be a massive technological driver as well, as seen during the Cold War, and I think we can say with certainty that with or without WW2, the geopolitical situation at the time would’ve been TENSE.

You know, I'm not sure the cold war would have gone the way it did. Without WW2, the British Empire is still a Major Player, The German Reich is also a major player. The soviets wouldn't have gotten past the great purge and years of experience in becoming a military powerhouse. So the cold war would be very different, perhaps even more tense or possibly less depending. But you are right. Various nations were developing them in some form prior to WW2, and they would have started to take form and enter service eventually. It's interesting to think how different it would end up being though right? I mean, Heck, figures taken in operation paperclip would never have been taken by the US if there was no ww2 so who knows how that would end up making things. Strange indeed.

Well, the butterfly effect is about the smallest changes having huge effects down the line, so with a change as big getting rid of a world war, the only thing we can say for sure is that the world be unrecognisable. Alternate history like that is certainly interesting to think about. Do you have any other periods of history you’re especially interested in? I find them all fascinating but I particularly the age of exploration, and any other time and place where radically different cultures met.

Well, I'm quite a fan generally of anything warship related in the world wars, and generally the era of the British Empire myself. And what else are you a fan of might i ask. The anthropology stuff sounds cool.

Hello everybody! Didn’t check the sight for a few days so it’s lovely to come back to this

@DonnerKebab Sorry for not responding, I like anything to do with people, really. We’re very interesting creatures. I especially like human cultures, historical and modern, which is a big part of anthropology. I listen to a lot of music as well (too much), a lot of alt rock and jazz lately.
