Anyone suffer with a minor or difficult back issue? I do, I used to play hockey before I injured my back and fuc@ed it up. then I realised my back was like this ( a c shape and It was hurting so I went to a specialist and They said I had a broken back which wasn't nice. My back was swollen from the impact and It was so hard to even pee because I had sevarl broken bones in my spine. 3 years later I have learnt to walk again and I laugh when people take the piss out oa me I tell em to stuff it lol. But Now I can get out of moving from class to class lmao. Giving time to recover is key!

Heyyy @KHI1886k sounds like your back has caused you a lot of pain and discomfort in the past. I also hear that it's been a slow journey to get to where you are today, but it's really encouraging to hear you are recovering physically and mentally.

I've broken my spine in the past and needed invasive surgery to fix the broken vertebrae. I also have a close friend who broke his spine when he was a teenager and he was paralysed for the first 9 months after the accident.

What both my friend and I talk about a lot is how the doctors don't really prepare you for the mental side of things. When your body is fixed and things are feeling better physically, there's no guarantee that the mental recovery is progressing at the same pace. How have you found your mental recovery?

We also speak about the things we've had to give up because of our accidents. My friend was an skiier and I really enjoyed football; both of these sports we had to sacrifice after our accidents. But it's interesting that we've both subsequently become interested in solo sports like mountain biking, climbing, endurance running + triathlons, and (leisurely) skiing. We've both found having sports where you can compete against yourself, e.g. track your progress against how you performed last time, is really motivating. But that still doesn't change how sad it is that we can't do the sport we used to love... Have you found this with yourself and hockey? <3
