Really important question about GDPR and The Mix

So GDPR comes in on 25th May, and one of the things it apparently changes is the age at which a person can consent to websites accessing people’s data, changing it from 13 to 16. Other apps and websites have already tried to remove me because of being 15 due to this.

I was wondering if this will affect the age limit for the mix?

Thanks.

This is a really good question @independent_, thanks for raising it. :)

This is what it says on the website for the ICO (the Information Commissioner's Office):
    ICO wrote:
only children aged 13 or over are able provide their own consent [...] For children under this age you need to get consent from whoever holds parental responsibility for the child - unless the online service you offer is a preventive or counselling service.

The Mix provides a preventive and counselling service for young people, which means the consent of the young person's parent won't be needed for our services. However, we will be updating our policies and any forms we use to collect data to make sure it's clear how we use that data.

To answer your main question: no, this won't affect the age brackets for The Mix's services. :)

    Does that help?

Omg thank goodness for that!! Thank you for that info. At least I’ll be able to stay here if I can’t stay anywhere else ;)
