Ditching friends for a relationship?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Hey guys:wave:
Ever got in to a new relationship and felt distant from your friends? Ever felt like you don't have enough hours in the day to socialise with your friends and keep your partner happy? Let's talk about it!

Getting in to a new relationship can often make us feel warm and fuzzy but when we can't remember the last time we saw our friends properly our feelings can soon turn to loneliness.

What do you think? Is it possible to have a close friendship group and a romantic relationship? Or is it common to see our friends turn their backs on us when they see us happy with a new partner?

I think it's definitely possible to have a close group of friends and have a romantic relationship. For me though, my girlfriend is part of my close group of friends, when we met neither of us had many friends but as we developed as a couple, we started to gain new friends and introduced each other to our old friends who we new before we met each other. She's my best friend and now we get to share the same social group too.

I used to work a fair bit, or whenever I could, basically, I used to work lodes. while also managing Uni, which added pressure onto all my relationships, including the one with my boyfriend, and friends, I began spending all my free time with him (I still do, haha) - But I've become distant from my friends than I ever had. I couldn't turn to my friends when I wanted a girly night in,etc. Because we hadn't spoken for days, etc. I just feel like their is a lot of added pressure, I'm not saying it's hard or impossible, but everyone's different, for me personally, I love the aspect of being cared for and just spoilt, which sounds really bad, but Its hard managing so many relationships, with Uni, and all that m'larkey, my times doing a lot better now though, I see my friends a lot more now (Well, I have this week) But I'm like madly in love, hahah!
