i’m not sure whether it’s private or not but how do i make it private? i know it sounds so silly but im not sure how to. much appreciated.

Not a silly question at all. You need to go to the cog in the top right for settings, clicked 'Edit profile', scroll down until the bit under Privacy which has a check box for "Display my profile publicly"
