mumsnet

i hope i put this in the right section of the discussion boards. so ive mentioned mumsnet before on one of my threads and im wondering. is it ok to go on mumsnet at 16? like im not commenting or reacting to any of the threads there, im just simply reading them. i made an account too quite a few months back just in case. but honestly i dont think that ill make posts on there until im pregnant with my first child. my plan in life is to have one child, maybe two if it goes well. the question is when will i be pregnant with my first child so that i can properly use mumsnet? the answer is well i dont know. i ideally want to have my first child by 25 because thats the upper age you can use the mix and thats when your brain fully develops so ill be ready to take care of the baby and watch them grow up. and plus i think it would be nice for the staff, the moderators and the community members to watch me grow up in a way. from a girl to a woman to a mother. yeah, that would be a nice send off by the time i turn 26.

Whenever i google a question, quite often the first thing to come up is a mumsnet thread. I have fallen down rabbit holes of reading the most active threads, and quite frankly I would not like to use it to ask for any advice. Certain sections of the boards are an absolute cesspit, full of hate and judgement. If you have an opinion, expect it to be shot down on one thread, and then on another thread you will be right and the star of the show (for the same opinion).

It is also, unfortunately, well known for pushing transphobic views which are extremely damaging.

I read some of it and just have to laugh because it’s so, so ridiculous. Maybe it’s because it’s full of middle class people and that’s absolutely not the demographic I fall into.

Though to be fair, if you do find it useful, there are other sections than just parenting. You don’t have to have kids to be on there, but just prepare yourself.

im lucky to have not fallen down the rabbit hole then. thanks for warning me. and i wasnt aware that they were and still are pushing transphobic views. i might just check out the other sections instead of the parenting sections.

nevermind i wont check the other sections out. i wont use mumsnet at all at this point. if theyre pushing transphobic views why use the website in the first place? its extremely damaging.

I must clarify that this is only what I’ve seen and heard. The feminism section in particular is bad for it, but it even crosses over into the LGBT sections, which is shocking really as they’re meant to be support boards.

It’s what you make of it - some people I imagine find it really useful, but they are likely the same people who hold quite judgemental views about a lot of things which you could quite openly receive support for on here. It’s quite frankly the complete opposite of a place like this.

If you are on reddit though, r/MNTrolls is another rabbit hole to go down, and some of those are quite funny.
