i totally understand how you’re feeling and that is so so valid, however, from a legal perspective, the mix can only offer support to those currently living in the uk - @AnonymousToe shared the link around the location situation which includes lots of helpful info around this!

you are so so deserving of support and i really hope that you can find what it is you need from a service that can offer you support - please do keep reaching out!

I understand but I don’t need helplines or suicide prevention I just need the community, talking to people like me without expectations

i totally get what you’re saying, but legally the mix can only cover a specific remit which is solely the uk - just like how we in the uk cannot use services that cover ireland, usa, new zealand etc.

Thank you but I doubt it. It seems to be a website around expats living in Portugal? I doubt any spouting around my mental health would be welcome.

aw sorry - i just seen that it said it was a community forum and thought it might be a bit similar to here in terms of its purpose.

The staff team (which is who you will have contact with) work 9-5, monday to Sunday (that is UK time.

Sometimes they take a bit of time to respond to you because they need to talk about things internally as a team, but hopefully they will get back to you tomorrow. I will ping @TheMix a mention here as well for you.

It is a very very recent change to the site and a few of us felt uncomfortable about it in the first place, but it is down to legal issues and safeguarding. Say for example you were suicidal (not saying that’s the kind of support you need, but for someone who was) and emergency services needed to be contacted, The Mix can only contact police and ambulance services in the UK so they would be unable to help you.

But if you have a read at the info and the comments below it, you will see many of us have our reservations too.

You are very much deserving of support and I’m so glad you’ve found being here helpful. The staff team are great, and if you work with them they may also be able to find you more appropriate support.

I'm pretty new myself and don't fully know all the rules, but i hope you're allowed to stay. I mean, you grew up here, you're still a British Citizen. I'm hoping that they can see that and that it's British citizens rather than just people currently residing in the UK, or else anybody going on holiday abroad would be on the chopping block. I mean, surely it can go along those lines legally. But listen mate, no matter how it goes, know that were all in you're corner. We're all backing you, and we all see you okay, and you're not alone, even if the mix isn't available to you. It's really been a pleasure getting to know you, and i hope the admins can allow an exception or change the rules.

No, literally you’re not allowed to use the mix while on holiday abroad. It’s for legal / safety reasons. I had a friend outside the UK who got kicked out suddenly when the rules changed. It’s really shit.

Nope you can’t even use it while on holiday, though I doubt a regular member would be permanently banned for this if they were normally in the UK.

In fact, I don’t know if people are banned for it at all - this post raises important questions about the process if someone is outside the UK. But might be asked to leave?

@Mausolus you certainly are. You are the first person I’ve seen posting from outside the UK since the rules changed. It’s an important post you’ve made here, because I think we could all do with some clarification here. We do get troublemakers here now and then, but most people do follow the rules (at least the old ones, there are some new ones lately like this one).

That will just be your rank changing, it happens as you post more. Mine’s is one of the really high ones, think mine will change again at 10,000 posts.

Thank you everybody for your messages here, and @Mausolus for opening up about how this is feeling. I can really hear just how much you value this space and how upsetting the thought of leaving is. We really want to support you through this and I recognise it may be hard. We've dropped you a DM.

To answer the questions in this thread about accessing The Mix Discussion Boards and Group Chats whilst on holiday abraod if you're a UK citizen / based in the UK, we do ask members to kindly refrain from using Community / The Mix services whilst you're outside the UK (whether you're on holiday for a few days / travelling for a few months / doing a uni semester studying abraod). This is because in cases where we need to contact other services, such as emergency services, or signpost to other organisations, we can only safely and legitimately do this for those in the UK.

When we contact the emergency services we’re contacting the UK-based force. If you were on holiday in Spain for example, the emergency services in the UK would not be able to directly help you. Also, when we’re keeping people safe, we are working within the UK Safeguarding Law. Which means we need to know if our community members are in the UK to ensure we are following the correct and relevant law.

We also recieve fundraising to provide UK services only.

If you were to return to the UK to live after studying abroad / a holiday, you would very much be welcome back to our services - that's all okay!

We just ask that whenever you're active on this Community website, you're physically within the UK.
