Can I ask why is every mod leaving?
It’s really odd for this amount of mods to leave all at once. Has it got something to do with the merge and how it’s run now?

We know there has been quite an increase in goodbye posts from mods over the last few weeks, and each mod has their own understandable reasons for why they have decided to end their volunteering with The Mix. It's really sad when we see mods leave after they've contributed so much to our community, but it's also completely their decision and they'll have their own personal reasons as to why.

I think it's just how things have fallen - sometimes we'll have no mods leaving for a period of time, and other times (like now) we'll have a few who decide to leave. We can also recognise we're still pretty early into a new year, and people's time, priorities and lives might look a little different - and that's okay

I do think it is perfectly reasonable to wonder and to ask that question. In my 9 years on here, I have never known so many mods (and members, for that matter) to leave within a short space of time.

I’m going to hazard a wild guess that this is having an impact on capacity and ability to run chats as well

My concern is that, without recruiting new mods (I will check the volunteer page before commenting on if this is the case or not) this is going to become more frequent, not less.

It’s not in any a dig at any individual mod who is leaving, like you say Katie they will all have their own personal reasons for that. But it is, imo, a reasonable assumption to make that it has to do with some of the changes being made, in some way or another.

I do hope that is the reason is for personal reasons rather than new rules makes it no longer suitable to some mods, for example not enough support for them to carry out their mod roles, not being the right age anymore or not given chances or their voice not being heard and even just like reading JustV old post about how they felt supported within their role and got given chances to get involved - I hope that doesn’t change for your mods and they deserve support too as still human and will still be the case with the merge. It would be more understandable if it was the start of September/ academic year.

Hopefully this is not came across badly. Just concerning and obviously fair enough if it’s purely their own choice - but it is noticeable and obviously would raise a lot of questions with users and assumptions. I fear you may not say the real reason if it was because of one of my reasons I said above but I’m just adding my perspective on to it as a long term user and wishing and hoping they are still being supported the same way.

I guess you could also say I've been the feeling the same way as everyone else on here on the way mods have just been disappearing and leaving and also the instability of the group chats being on then being suddenly cancelled because of mod insufficiency. I'd like to think that mods have left because of personal reasons or to do with them either being on uni or wanting to go on a different adventure, rather than it being associated with the merger (eventhough I do personally feel like the merger may have something to do with it potentially). I feel like there has been lots of changes to the mix, some maybe good, some also may have some negative impacts.

It’ll be sugarcoated regardless. Unless you hear it straight out of the mods mouth which you won’t.

I think it’s obvious what’s happening. We aren’t stupid lol.

Hi everyone,

You deserve to know the truth for why many mods are leaving so suddenly. The recent merger has created many changes. Some of which the mods do not agree with. Some mods have been treated poorly which has led them to leave. Us mods have been isolated from talking to each other. The mix is no longer what it used to be. Some mods feel like they had no choice to leave. We also get given phrases to copy which us mods don’t feel is very authentic.

That makes me sad. It kinda sounds like my predictions above was right. This site really helped even the mods to boost their confidence and move forward in loads of ways and now it feels less like a community more than ever and everyones vioces aren’t being heard

They should really understand that this is meant to be a community, shout isn’t a community, its 121 so you can’t treat them the same. Mods will come here with different expectations and it will go down hill if they don’t listen which makes me really sad. Can’t isolate people, come to feel apart of something and help others but made not to be seen as an individual, made to feel like a robot. There’s not much job satisfaction from that.

I won’t be surprised if they started changing every mods name to just “moderator” ( hopefully that doesn’t give them any ideas)


I understand completely if you don’t agree with how they’re treating this place now and hope take good care of yourselves. Your support has been very appreciated

@GingerEm thank you for sharing the truth with us - i imagine that it will cause further issues for you as you're sharing a negative view of the mix which isn't allowed and that it will just be deleted and ignored rather than addressed - i really hope that there is no negative consequence for you sharing the reality with us🩷

i think it was rather obvious that it definitely wasn't the same anymore sadly:( i hope use are all ok, use don't at all deserve to be treated badly - use have all been the most lovely and supportive people that make such a difference.

sending use all so much love, use will be so missed by us - but its very understandable why use have made the decision to leave with what you've shared em, its just sad that the reason for leaving is what it is rather than your own choice due to other commitments etc.

EDIT: i just seen @Maia post too:( its so unfair that use have been left to feel this way for sure - i hope that use being honest about the experience of being a mod doesn't mean use get into shit for it as use really don't deserve that!! thank use both for everything🩷
