1. What do you enjoy most about modding?
I really enjoy being able to facilitate a safe online space for people to connect - I wish I had known about a space like this when I was younger.
2. What's a fun fact about yourself?
Most of you will know but I'm a huge Ed Sheeran fan and have been to see him live 18 times (queueing for hours on end!). I also met him last year at a meet & greet which was INSANE.
3. What's your ideal way to spend your weekends?
I love going to gigs! I've really enjoyed going along to see smaller artists play in wee venues recently. I love watching football and I'm a huge Liverpool fan so my mood is mostly determined by our results. I also love getting out for walks in London but also travelling home to Edinburgh often!
4. What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
I would say I've learned that not everything in life will go as planned and that's okay. Life can take you down a squiggly road but there's no right time for anything. You're on your own path that's unique to you and that's what makes life so precious.
1. What do you enjoy most about modding?
I guess what I enjoy most is helping the discussion boards be a safe and comfortable space for people to open up and share in - it's so great to have such a friendly and non-judgmental online space
2. What's a fun fact about yourself?
I used to be a competitive swimmer when I was at school and am still so drawn to being in the water. If I go on holiday I'm in the sea or pool literally 24/7
3. What's your ideal way to spend your weekends?
As a massive foodie my weekends are all about finding interesting places to eat! I have a long list of bakeries and food markets I want to try out with my friends and family.
4. What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
I've learnt that it's so so important to try your best to be kind to other people, even if they're not being outwardly kind to you. You never know what they may be going through under the surface
1. What do you enjoy most about modding?
Giving people a home when they don't have a better one. Also, having been around a while, nothing makes me happier than to see folks stick around in this community and really become part of it - particularly those who don't get on with others very well at first or present with big social barriers.
2. What's a fun fact about yourself?
I won an Italian poetry competition when I was nine (no, I'm not sharing the poem )
3. What's your ideal way to spend your weekends?
The cinema is my happy place. I love nothing more than to see a good film on the big screen, and probably cry at it even if it's not sad (I seem to be a big movie crier!)
4. What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
Nothing just is the way it is for no reason, including us. We're pretty bad at understanding the things that shape our lives and who we are as people, and as a result we tend to give ourselves a hard time over things that aren't our fault. Approach yourself and others with a big dose of curiosity and compassion - you'll find that basically everyone is doing their best (including you). 💚
1. What do you enjoy most about modding?
I enjoy being able too listen too the members and understand & emphasize with them. It's also wonderful being able too help the members of the community connect and a real joy too see them support one another.
2. What's a fun fact about yourself?
I love gaming and play Overwatch in tournaments with my University team 🎮
3. What's your ideal way to spend your weekends?
Usually by walking my dog Pippa, watching a movie with my boyfriend and playing games with friends.
4. What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
The most important phrase in life is ‘It is what it is’. As someone with anxiety caused by OCD, this has helped me be able too carry on through the hard days
1. What do you enjoy most about modding?
One of my greatest joys in this role is to provide a safe, judgement free space for young people to be themselves. The boards are a kind respite from the rest of the internet and it is so lovely to see the community support each other in the ways that they do- you're all lovely stars!
2. What's a fun fact about yourself?
I really want to swim with whale sharks one day! 🦈
3. What's your ideal way to spend your weekends?
My weekends are Sunday and Mondays and I think being outside in any capacity is always the key to a good and restful weekend for me! That might be a walk on the beach, a swim in the sea or exploring the woods or countryside. My Monday nights are also my absolute favourite because I am part of a super joyful soul choir!
4. What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
Life has a super interesting way of unfolding when the right time comes, sometimes it will feel like everyone else is achieving more than you, but "achievement" isn't a race with a finish line. It's a personal performance on a vast, ever-evolving stage. You might see someone your age seemingly miles ahead, but remember they're following a different script entirely. Your own journey has its unique timing, its hidden obstacles, and its beautiful limitations that shape your story, you will get there in your own perfect time
I'm Elijah. My profile pic is one of my cats, Bessie. I use they/them pronouns and I have been modding the group chats since 2017!! (Yes, I am old )
1. What do you enjoy most about modding?
I really enjoy seeing how individuals and the community develop and grow over time - whether that's an individual over the course of a chat or two going from being really worried about something to really confident in facing it thanks to the community's help, or the way the community as a whole has changed over the years.
2. What's a fun fact about yourself?
I am a big Formula 1 fan! I watch the qualifying and races every weekend it's on, and then spend the rest of the week complaining that my favourite driver didn't win
3. What's your ideal way to spend your weekends?
At home, crafting (as well as watching the F1 )! I love to sew, knit and crochet (to varying degrees of success. ). At the moment I am crocheting a massive dragon which has been a lot of fun but takes a very long time!
4. What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
Similar to a few other people's comments, life doesn't always follow the path you want it to, and that's okay! Throughout our school years we're told how important it is to pass our exams, go to college or university, etc, in order to be happy. Then as an adult as well we learn to compare ourselves to other people who we feel are 'further ahead' in life, whether that's in their careers, their family life, hobbies, or in dealing with their mental or physical health. Honestly, though, I don't think anyone's life works out in the way they planned! There are always going to be bumps along the road. It's okay to be upset when they come, but accepting where you're at right now and thinking about your future based on that reality is the best way I've found to actually be happy
My name is Emma and I am one of the moderators. You will most likely find me on Tuesday evenings in the chat room
1. What do you enjoy most about modding?
I love to get to know all of you lovely people. You always make me smile and I am happy to help wherever I can.
2. What's a fun fact about yourself?
I have published a book all about mental health.
3. What's your ideal way to spend your weekends?
On the weekends you will mostly find me reading my book, watching Netflix or trying to control my 3 crazy dogs: buster, bolt and arlo.
4. What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
I would say that you should enjoy the present as much as you can. It’s really easy to get lost in the world of technology. Also it’s ok to have a bad day. You got this!!
1. What do you enjoy most about modding?
I enjoy helping to create a space that feels really safe for young people to reach out for support. It also makes my day when I hear how helpful our community has been to someone.
2. What's a fun fact about yourself?
When I was 21, I went travelling around Australia and worked in a mango farm! I tried so many forms of mango flavoured foods and drinks, I can't eat them anymore!
3. What's your ideal way to spend your weekends?
I love spending time outside whether it's going on a walk, exploring a new city or escaping the city to the beaches down in cornwall. I also love going out for brunch and trying new cafes!
4. What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
One lesson I've learned from my life is that kindness can go such a long way. We never really know what someone is going through and even those small acts of kindness can have a huge impact on someone's day. I know for me, when a stranger has been kind, I've always remembered what they did and it's always made my day a little brighter. I try and spread kindness as much as I can
I’m Beth and I joined the chat moderation team late last year. Before joining The Mix I was a counsellor at Childline!😃
1. What do you enjoy most about modding?
I love helping to create this safe corner of the internet where you can all share your thoughts and feelings with confidence💛
2. What's a fun fact about yourself?
I make fun, custom rugs for people and also do some graphic design work too!
3. What's your ideal way to spend your weekends?
I enjoy getting out and about, whether it’s taking my dogs for a walk, doing something adventurous or visiting friends and family!😄
4. What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
I’ve learnt to embrace the present moment and small joys in life. Whether it’s savouring the warmth of a morning cup of tea, enjoying the birds tweeting away or simply sharing laugher with loved ones. The fleeting moments are sometimes so beautiful and hold such significance💛
What do you enjoy most about modding?
I love chatting with all of you and it's amazing to be a part of this wonderful, supportive corner of the internet. 😊
What's a fun fact about yourself?
I LOVE the show Queer Eye (the 2018 version). I think its such a feel good show and I love watching it after a long day.
What's your ideal way to spend your weekends?
I love going for lunch with my friends, spending hours chatting and wandering about town, then coming home, getting all cozy in a blanket with a hot chocolate and watching a movie.
What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
I've learnt that even though you might feel stuck in a situation or like you're going to feel a certain way forever, you are never stuck. Everything is temporary, both good and bad things don't last forever. I think it's super important to focus on the present and embrace change, knowing that you can handle whatever life throws your way.
1. What do you enjoy most about modding?
Helping make this safe space where people can open up, be who they are and give/receive so much empathy. I also love the community’s wild sense of humour and the way everyone celebrates the big and small achievements in each other’s lives
2. What's a fun fact about yourself?
I’m a big Taylor Swift fan and can guess any song by listening to the first couple of seconds
3. What's your ideal way to spend your weekends?
I love going out for brunch and I always have a tv series on the go (at the moment it’s Fallout!)
4. What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
Treating myself with kindness and empathy has given me a lot of strength to take steps forward in many parts of my life
I love reading other people's posts, especially if I feel I can relate to them in some way. I love sitting down and typing out (sometimes) long responses to others. I've had a general interest in mental health, but have a particular interest in autism, bullying and friendship/relationship issues. I like being able to combine my knowledge and life experience to help others.
2. What's a fun fact about yourself?
I have been on a husky sled in Lapland!
3. What's your ideal way to spend your weekends?
I love going out and getting exercise (if it's not raining!) and then spending time with family or settling down watching a film or playing a game.
4. What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
Just because other people might treat you differently and you might feel that there is something 'wrong' with you, it doesn't mean that there is. Think critically rather than fully believing what others say or what you read online.
It was hard picking just one thing
I would have really benefitted from a space like these community boards, so I love playing a part in this community! It's such a privilege to chat with you all & offer judgment-free support
2. What's a fun fact about yourself?
I love all things related to the ocean, cooking & queer culture!
3. What's your ideal way to spend your weekends?
Slight spoiler from the above but by the ocean! My ideal weekend is a sunny day at the beach, snacking and swimming, while reading queer literature
4. What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
If you don't feel ready for something, that's okay! Sometimes we feel like we need to make decisions very quickly but it's okay to take your time and think about what is right for you, so further down the line the decisions we made suit our needs as individuals!
I love people so much and learning about different walks of life that people go through and still end up being beautiful souls. I think the world goes round for the bonds and experiences we make with others!
2. What's a fun fact about yourself?
About to get hardcore judged for this one, but I'm going to blame my Turkish heritage for this one! I have natural yoghurt on basically of my dinners unless it involves gravy (tried it once, was terrible, the gravy curdled). When I was younger I would always have "dirty rice and yoghurt" (which is rice cooked with vermicelli) at my nan's house and I'd obsessively ask for it. Name any dish and I probably put yoghurt on it!
3. What's your ideal way to spend your weekends?
Even though I'm pretty extroverted, I do like just chilling out and watching YouTube when I have free time, like streams or whatever or listening to music, but also seeing my friends and my girlfrienddd.
4. What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
That the world would be better with as much compassion as people can muster, trying to understand each other and the reasons why we do things and act as we do is super important even if it doesn't always justify behaviours, it can help us understand how people can grow and flourish
1. What do you enjoy most about modding?
I love being able to support you all and watch your individual growth over the time I have been here! We have a really wonderful community.
2. What's a fun fact about yourself?
In my spare time, out of work, I volunteer across the charity sector. This means I can fulfil all my dreams and not have to be too narrow in chasing my dreams!
3. What's your ideal weekend to spend your weekends?
Spending time with family and friends and the cinema or theatre or wrapped up reading a good book. On that note, I saw The Little Mermaid theatre production this weekend - it was wonderful!
4. What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
It will be okay - even if it doesn't feel okay. Keep putting one foot in front of the other, one step at a time - no matter how those steps may feel. Life may not always go the way you expected but it might go better than you expected.
1. What do you enjoy most about modding?
I love listening and talking to everyone in this forum - so many different interests, experiences and stories! Some of them require a celebration, and others space to express their concerns and troubles. Being able to provide those makes this role a really fulfilling one
2. What's a fun fact about yourself?
I love to travel! Last year, I had the incredible opportunity to see the Northern Lights
3. What's your ideal weekend to spend your weekends?
I like to have something different organised for the weekend - be it a hike through a new country park; playing a new board game with friends; or perhaps exploring a new place and trying their food!
4. What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
Think about the direction you're headed. Having good direction helps us to find purpose and move forwards, but it doesn't come by itself. Take the time to figure out what's a good direction for you, and keep it in mind to guide you forwards
1. What do you enjoy most about modding?
2. I love being able to help and support you guys and also see the amazing community spirit and hi everybody really and to support each other. it really makes my heart glad to see such a lovely and supportive safe space
3. What's a fun fact about yourself?
I’m a blackbelt in taekwondo remind me a bit of that TikTok sign that says looks like a cinnamon roll could kill you
4. What's your ideal weekend to spend your weekends?
I love spending time with my family at the weekend and maybe seeing some friends. Most weekends I do some volunteering and go to my guitar lesson on a Saturday, which is always really fun
4. What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
Don’t worry if you’re not sure you will figure things out and just take each day as it comes and try not to rush things are work out and its own way and has a path for you even at the minute it’s a bit rocky it will straighten out
1. What do you enjoy most about modding?
I really enjoy feeling like I might have helped someone and also I love the feeling of safety and security many people have developed partly thanks to the intervention of staff and mods in the boards - you can really see at times that people think of the discussion boards as a safe space.
2. What's a fun fact about yourself?
I have never broke a bone! (Safety is fun! - idk everyone i know has broken a bone at least once so I feel somewhat special)
3. What's your ideal way to spend your weekends?
Walking and listening to music/podcasts, possibly both at once.
4. What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
Sometimes you might feel like you're lost and that something is wrong with you because of that, but you're only young and identity is shaped at least partly by engaging with this conflict and you cannot fault yourself for learning how to cope with life as best as you can when you're still learning who you are.
Some of you may know me already, but as it's my 1st anniversary of being on The Mix I thought it would be a perfect time to reintroduce myself!
1. What do you enjoy most about modding?
I really enjoy being able to interact with this lovely community and build rapport with everyone whilst being able to give back through volunteering.
2. What's a fun fact about yourself?
I'm currently a student studying psychology!
3. What's your ideal way to spend your weekends?
I love to read, listen to music, watch TV shows or spend time with my cat 🐱
4. What's one lesson you've learned from your life that you want to share with the community?
Try your best - your best doesn't mean doing everything to the point of burnout and wearing yourself down, it looks different every day, your best is simply being able to do as much as you feel you can without running yourself into mental, physical and social exhaustion.
yay happy 1st anniversary and thanks for being amazing u bring sm to this community and we r so lucky to hv u x
