    I've wondered this too, not sure why, but if you ever did want to delete anything there's an option under the flag menu which lets you flag it and the team will delete it for you.

    @independent_ is correct as usual. :) The reason people can't delete their own threads is because it can mean also deleting the responses written by other people. You can edit your own post and make it blank, or flag it with the mod team as mentioned above.
    All behaviour is a need trying to be met.
