I have a question. Why does group chat stop for 2 weeks in the winter but only 1 week in April and August? I understand that it is most likely because of the volunteers wanting family time. But I am still just curious.

Great question @Kasa2103. This actually begun as a one-off thing, but we decided to do it again this year and it's likely to become the regular pattern - 2 weeks in January, 1 week in April and 1 week in August.

Generally, December-January is the busiest time for staff and volunteer teams. Lots of people have holiday booked and there's generally less people and time available to keep everything running. It's rare we have more than one staff member around over the Christmas week, and we can't support our volunteers as well as we'd like to when we're that thin on the ground. In April and August, generally we don't have the same drop in capacity.

With it being the transition to a new year, it's also the prime time for staff and volunteers to reflect on the year and have a bit of a reset. We deliberately try and put a bit more into the discussion boards around that time to compensate. :)

    Does that make sense?
