If you haven't seen many movies this year, don't worry - feel free to guess!

There might even be a bag of Mix merch in it for the winner... ;)

Safe to say this year has been a great year for the film industry...

    1) BEST PICTURE - If Bohemian Rhapsody doesn't win it would be an absolute tragedy. There music seems to mean so much more after watching.
    2) BEST ACTRESS - Lady Gaga (music seems to be a recurring theme here...)
    3) BEST ACTOR - Rami Malek (I liked Bohemian Rhapsody, Can you tell?)
    4) BEST DIRECTOR - Pawel Pawlikowski
    5) BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR - Sam Rockwell
    6) BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS - Emma Stone
    7) BEST ORIGINAL WRITING - Vice, McKay
    8) BEST ADAPTED WRITING - A Star is Born
    9) BEST ANIMATED - Incredibles 2 (won't lie, I've not actually seen any so this is a guess!)
    10) BEST VISUAL EFFECTS - Christopher Robin

    1. BEST PICTURE - Roma
    2. BEST ACTRESS - Olivia Colman
    3. BEST ACTOR - Rami Malek. The movie was filled with falsities, had weird pacing issues and rife with behind the scenes controversy but Malek IS Freddie Mercury and he earned this Oscar.
    4. BEST DIRECTOR - Spike Lee
    5. BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR - Richard E. Grant
    6. BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS - Rachel Weisz
    7. BEST ORIGINAL WRITING - The Favourite. Deborah Davis worked on this film forever, she deserves to be recognised as a woman in the industry
    8. BEST ADAPTED WRITING - If Beale Street Could Talk blew me away
    9. BEST ANIMATED - It can't be anything other than Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
    10. BEST VISUAL EFFECTS - Avengers: Infinity War was the only one I actually liked in this entire category but even I don't think it deserves an Oscar

As a sidenote, how did everyone feel about the Oscars this year? Seems like quite a few people weren't happy with the nominations and/or winners.

There's always going to be debate and discussion over who should've won, as everyone has their own opinions! However, there's some debate over the apparent disconnect between film critics and film fans (for instance, fans love superhero movies but they don't get many awards)?

I find this really interesting as well @Azziman. I wonder if they fundamentally look at films differently? From hearing critics and audiences talk about movies, critics tend to look at how well-constructed something is and maybe get their enjoyment from appreciating it on a slightly more analytical level.

I guess it's the age-old thing of some things being more appealing to the masses but potentially being less technically good, less bold or less creative. Though none of these things necessarily make a film more or less enjoyable - you can have an enjoyable movie that isn't very creative but also have a very creative and well-made movie that isn't very enjoyable.

Though I think a lot of critics were disappointed at the Oscars this year too, so who knows? Haha.
