so... it's day three of fresher's week. how have people found it all so far? what have you got up to?

my week has sucked :( i just found out this morning i've missed three whole days of full-time induction (i wasn't sent any info about it). tomorrow is tutorial sessions, a social and then we go to the union and library. i went to fresher's fair today but didn't sign up to anything. it was all sports (i'm useless at it, was always picked last at school) or ethnic/religious stuff. the journey to and from campus is awful. it takes forever, and the traffic from the town the campus is at towards the city centre is a nightmare. i must sound so depressing :( hopefully things will brighten up tomorrow.

It aint too bad. Apart from the 3 hours it took queueing to enrol. Another 2 hour very boring lecture type thing about course modules, student support and it room rules and regs. And having realised that I am on a course full of geeks and can't see any of them knowing how to have agood time.

Flat mate from hell who locks himself in his room all the time and doesn't speak, another who has loads of mates round Manchester so we hardly see him...but he's doing smae first year as me so maybe he'll be useful, and another lass who I get on with really well and we sit up talking all the time. Can't believe I aint had a night out yet in freshers...ah well...I@m here to work not socialise...I've done the messing about time at uni on my other two failed attempts.

But hey I'm away from home. my fellas 5 mins away on the train, got a load of mates around the palce. I'm happy.

To be honest, you've probably done yourself a favour missing all the induction/ registration bull. It's a massive headache and most of it is either stuff you already know, or warnings not to fail - and trust me on this, you have to try HARD to fail!

Relax and enjoy the rest of the week. Make friends, get settled, ignore whatever criticism you get for not being at th einduction rubbish...you can always copy someone else's notes (LOL :p )

oh yeah i forgot to mention how long registering took! but the student card at the uni i go to lasts for your duration there, so hopefully that event won't happen again. i've had no nights out yet either. then again if i was living in halls i'd be closer to all the action. ah well, all in good time.

thanks for your reassurance mike. i probably have missed boring talks, and i think the best part of the week will be tomorrow. there's a lot to adjust to, it must be a million times harder for foreign students!

I leave tomorrow :hyper: Back up to Edinburgh for final year.

I'm a Freshers Helper, so will probably have a very stressful week, but should be fun!

My Fresher's Week doesn't start till next Monday either. I'm not looking forward to all the queuing and I'm now even more scared about meeting my roommate - I hope she turns out better than your flatmates!!

Hope things look up for everyone.. :-)

Don't worry if you're not having a fantastic time! In freshers week there's an awful lot of pressure that "everyone must have the time of their lives", and, frankly, it's a load of bollocks. Different people take different amounts of time to settle in - some people seem to take about a week, it took me a term! But stick it out - eventually there'll come a day when you realise you're actually enjoying yourself.

You're not the only one. I had to phone 3 times to get my freshers pack bc it keeps getting lost in the post. And i only got it finally, 2 weeks ago, and all 3 came with 2 days.

My journey from home to lectures at 9am means i have to get up at 6.45am and it takes 1hr and 10 mins on a good day and much longer on a bad day.

Anybody on here going to Bath uni??
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
poor you lucifer, having to do another year there :( i was gonna do the same, but then decided to get into uni with what i had.

    i'm at the leeds met.

i went on thursday and things will still :( there is not one other girl in my tutor group (i'm doing IT, thought there'd be loads!). i stupidly chickened out of going to this social thing cos i am really shy. i have said i'll be the student rep though, so hopefully that will help buck up my confidence.

my timetable isn't too bad, have to be there for three days each week. i haven't met anyone yet  i know this time could be either fantastic or rubbish, and that the only person who can change it all is me. fingers crossed things will be alright soon.

I'm at Nottingham Uni and having a really good week :)

They've organised so many different things...the only problem is running out of money...!

I didn't have to queue to register, they organised time slots and it all seemed to work out quite well.

I spent six hours trying to register for my optional modules though...and I still need one more to do!

don't even get me started on my registration yesterday

they told all the 3rd years to come between 9 and 12. so there's thousands of third years, but i was checking out other people's forms, and there were loads of 1st and 2nd years managed to creep in too. so there are thousands of us in this one queue, and various levels of checking. and if you're missing something right at the end of the queue (like i was) you have to go get it, but you're not allowed to join back in the queue where you left off. oh no. you have to start from the beginning AGAIN

    mines was ok i guess.......

ended up with anxiety/really tight chest pains after the 1st day cos i was really nervous and stressed.

the people i ended up hanging about with all knew each other from school, so i felt a bit left out, plus none of them are actually in my class.....

its been ok, but ive lost my voice and dont know if ill be able to go back on monday when the course actually officially starts!! :(:(

Mines been great fun! No Queues, no boring lectures, just plenty of laughter and alcohol!

I saw (and kissed) Chesney Hawkes last night :D:naughty: and every one is getting on so far. Random people are cool and talkative, which might wear off but I hope not. And I havnt even started my GeolSoc fun yet.

    To conclude, I lurve it!

Mine went pretty well. On monday i was pretty nervous cos i thought i wouldnt make any friends cos im not living in halls but i went to a freshers party in the evening and met quite a few ppl who i met up with again on wednesday night. It took me till wednesday to meet anyone on my course who i liked (i met a girl on tuesday who is also doing biology but she was a right drip!) so i now have a few friends who are on my course and all i gotta worry about is my lectures starting tomorrow!!!

Anyone else doing BSc Biology?? and if so...is the course ok? (v worried after seeing timetable and course booklets which dont seem to be in english!!) :eek2:

Mine is excellent :D Though I'm not a Fresher, I'm a Freshers Helper. I get to wear a bright red t-shirt and name badge and flirt with all the freshers (although most of the men here this year seem to be gay :chin: )

Have been running around doing campus tours, manning the help desk, setting up chairs for the night events, chatting to freshers about life in Edinburgh, collecting glasses, shouting at other Freshers Helpers for not collecting glasses, and selling hot dogs at the end of the night (mmmmm......)

if the truth be told my freshers week is pretty lousy. I havent made many friends...havent been out on the night and the induction week has been really boring. I got to say it...so far i'm not impressed with uni life..i just hope it gets better.

I'm sure it will do, emj, you'll soon settle down. I hated my first few weeks at Uni last year, but it does get better, honestly. The people you live with become your second family and you begin to feel at home there. I'm sure you'll be fine!

This year my Fresher's week was manic. I was peer guiding, I still live in Halls, and I'm club captain for the gymnastics team, so pretty much everything that was being organised, I was meant to be involved in. I still had jet lag from a trip to America just before going back too, so I was exhausted by the end of it all. Now I'm just trying to settle back down and recover from Fresher's flu!
