I thought this was interesting

This is something to think about! Since America is typically represented by an eagle. Saddam should have read up on his Muslim passages... The following verse is from the Quran, (the Islamic Bible)

Quran (9:11) -- For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace.

Note the verse number!!!!!
Beep boop. I'm a bot.

I actually found $5 in the laundry so... ;)

And I'm not totally sure how the Koran is chaptered, but isn't the Koran the one where it is not like stories like the bible, but the verses are listed from the longest to the shortest, so its not in any type of chronological order... or is that a different religious text?

I'm pretty sure Eagles are only found in the USA, Canada, Mexico and those sort of areas, plus some parts of africa.

So how likely is it Eagles were even known about in the days when the Koran was written.

But then again Gulf airlines have an eagle on their planes!!

Are there any Muslims in the house? Or someone with a translation of
the Koran? I have the following in an e-mail and would like a check on
    it's authenticity--

lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair

    Sounds fishy to me...

    Nope its a crock,

Here is Surah 9 from the Qu'ran

    (up to verse 12)

    The Koran

    ----

    The Immunity
[9.1] (This is a declaration of) immunity by Allah and His Apostle towards
those of the idolaters with whom you made an agreement.
[9.2] So go about in the land for four months and know that you cannot
weaken Allah and that Allah will bring disgrace to the unbelievers.
[9.3] And an announcement from Allah and His Apostle to the people on the
day of the greater pilgrimage that Allah and His Apostle are free from
liability to the idolaters; therefore if you repent, it will be better for
you, and if you turn back, then know that you will not weaken Allah; and
announce painful punishment to those who disbelieve.
[9.4] Except those of the idolaters with whom you made an agreement, then
they have not failed you in anything and have not backed up any one against
you, so fulfill their agreement to the end of their term; surely Allah loves
those who are careful (of their duty).
[9.5] So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters
wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in
wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and
pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving,
    Merciful.
[9.6] And if one of the idolaters seek protection from you, grant him
protection till he hears the word of Allah, then make him attain his place
of safety; this is because they are a people who do not know.
[9.7] How can there be an agreement for the idolaters with Allah and with
His Apostle; except those with whom you made an agreement at the Sacred
Mosque? So as long as they are true to you, be true to them; surely Allah
loves those who are careful (of their duty).
[9.8] How (can it be)! while if they prevail against you, they would not pay
regard in your case to ties of relationship, nor those of covenant; they
please you with their mouths while their hearts do not consent; and most of
    them are transgressors.
[9.9] They have taken a small price for the communications of Allah, so they
turn away from His way; surely evil is it that they do.
[9.10] They do not pay regard to ties of relationship nor those of covenant
in the case of a believer; and these are they who go beyond the limits.
[9.11] But if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, they are
your brethren in faith; and We make the communications clear for a people
    who know.
[9.12] And if they break their oaths after their agreement and (openly)
revile your religion, then fight the leaders of unbelief-- surely their
oaths are nothing-- so that they may desist.

    It's bull....
The Immunity 9.11 actually says 'But if they repent and keep up prayer
and pay the poor-rate, they are your brethren in faith; and We make
the communications clear for a people who know.'

You're right to smell old kippers, John.

For a start, no verses in the Koran begin with the phrase "It is written". This is a reference to a source and it's fundamental in Islam (as I understand it) that the Koran is the source itself, not a citation of anything higher, purer or more ancient.

Unlike the Bible which (correct me if I'm wrong) is believed to have been written by the prophets (or others) over many centuries, so that later books of the Bible do quote earlier ones,
the Koran is believed to be a book existing in heaven since the beginning of time and authored by God, who speaks in it in the first person plural throughout. It is thought to have been dicated to Mohammed by the Angel Gabriel (Jibreel in Arabic) over a number of months. It therefore does not quote - why would God quote from anyone else?

(I just checked this by searching the words "it is written" in an online Koran database - 2 hits, both referring to the record of an individual's good and evil actions supposed to be kept in heaven to confront them after their death.)

It's easy to put this stuff to the test: the Koran is widely available online, though translations differ. Like Kiwimac, I used the University of Michigan's one.
