You think pictures & movies should be taken off P2P file shareing?

I do. The amount of shit you get that some sicker fuckers are downloading is stupid. I just typed in sex then looked what else a user had in his/hers shared folder and this is what he had.

You take for example the RIAA busting top MP3 downloaders because their taking their money.. people should invest in busting these sickos.

lol well you never know

Yeah some of the gear people have are horrible. Sometimes I can be searching for stuff and I somehow get taken to a sex thing. I now have installed a spyware thing as well cos some of the sites were sex things and these sex dialers or sommat....I dunno cos Ive deleted em.
I think these download sites should do more by means of monotoring what people actually share and ban the sex stuff.

So, downloading illegal music should be okay, while downloading porn isn't?

I do not download porn, but the software is made for filesharing. Which means every possible file, people would want to share.

If you want something decent, then don't go to an illegal site in the first place dude.

Forgive my ignorance on these matters... these are websites where users subscribe and share each other's hard drive files, right? Is that how it works?

And if so, do you have different websites dedicated to different subjects, such as music or sex? Or they are of general content and it's up to the person browser to click on what they're after?

In any case, it should be easy enough to grass up the bloke who has such files... just report him to his ISP or to the police...

Kazaa is free, and when downloading that I don't recall any ban on porn and sex.
Either way, if he tells on somebody else he himself will get caught. How should he otherwise know about this?

Most sharing softwares are not specified for music, therefore there is no need to get on the high horse, when he's himself not acting all that angelic regarding the law.

Right so downloading child porn doesn't matter?
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
You should have emphasised that. It's unreadable :p

With that, it's a total different matter.

No, those screen shots are taken from WINMX users.

I'm glad to see you misunderstood, I read your earlier comments and couldn't believe you were defending this, phew!

    Isn't that already illegal?

Yeah it is but what I'm trying to say is that if you stoped progs such as WINMX and Kazza having the option to download & share video and picture files then you have at least stoped one source of child sex pictures being traded around the internet.

With the battle raging between the corporate world and the open source grassroots of the world, eliminating Kazaa or any other p2p client is more or less a pipedream. For each one shut down others will quickly emerge.

What can be done though (and IS in fact being done by more elaborate p2p networks is to forbid child pornography as a condition of gaining access to the network.

With DirectConnect (DC, DC++) the hubs to which one may connect are monitored both by mods and by bots which scan all connecting computers' share folders and autonmatically disconnect the user if illegal porn is detected.

As technology advances such automatic screening methods will become more foolproof.

Thats the best we can hope for I suspect.

So, what you are saying is that I shouldn't be allowed to transfer any picture, because some people are acting illegally?

Isn't that like stopping people driving cars because some people drive whilst drunk and kill?

If it helps to stop the people from shareing child porn then yeah. From what you just said sounds rather selfish... Just becuase you can't trade pictures of what ever don't mean to say it's the end of the world. Find them on a website.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
There's such thing as legitimate file transfers *GASP* yes thats right people who actuall use P2P to get game patches, commnuity music, code snippits, os programs. Just because 1% (less than) of the internet has child porn on it your going to stop everyone else.

Its free compaired with £30 a year web fee's and its quicker enabling multiple downloads across several people.

Sounds like setting fire to your house becuase its dirty.

Again that sounds quite selfish. You are quite compaired to put up with those type's of images just because you can have multiple file downloads.

What about the young children who are getting raped just so a few pervs can have their sick kicks by looking at the photos?

Selfish? I want to share my contibutions open source programming ... and im selfish?
The young children who are getting raped, will continue to get raped if there is demand. Getting rid of filesharing will not get rid of child porn. You need to arrest those involved in child porn rings before they go underground.
P2P isnt just Kazaa/WinMX/DC++ etc FTP/DCC technologies that have been around since the internet boom. You want to ban those as well??
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Of course, these people's e-mail wouldn't still work

You won't stop it, just move it to another system - be that a website or an e-mail server.

You don't need to use a sledgehammer to crack a nut, do you?
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I wasn't saying to stop file shareing full stop... just the use of pictures and movie downloads.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
If they want it bad enough, they will get it.

Yes, child porn is disgusting, but all stopping people from uploading pictures will do is bother the legitimate users of the service.
The paedofiles will resort to their more "traditional" methods of distribution.

And what about uploading pictures/movies as compressed files (which have a different file extension)? Or as a picture in a word document?

MoK's drink driving analogy fits best.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I think thats a sound idea banning movie and picture sharing over P2P to stop child porn.

Out of interest - Is EVERY form of Porn download illegal?
