    yes.

it's a pain in the arse.

i cant eat red meat, some dairy or a lot of wheat.

yesterday my belly was so bloated i looked like i was pregnant.

if you see your doctor, they can refer you to specialist or a dietician, so you can learn about reducing the symptoms.

also it's important to rule out other causes - self-diagnosis is not a good idea.

i think i may soon be diagnosed as having it. ive had stomachproblems since october and been attending the hospital about it. had to go and get a barium enema :nervous: to rule out anything serious but that came back clear. go back to the hospital next week and i think they will put it down to ibs!
my belly is bloated alot and i get pain and burp like mad and all sorts of nasty things.
have you been diagnosed with it or are you just guessing? if you are having stomach probs you should ALWAYS go to your gp! :)

Nah doesn't do you any harm, just tends to wreck your social life until you learn to control it the best you can. Yoga is supposed to work and so is hypnosis.

I went to a doctor when I was about 16 and suffering from horrible stomach pains, and I was told I had IBS - but it's a Syndrome, i.e a collection of symptoms, so it can cover a multitude of evils, basically. So even if a doctor tells you you have it, it's not always much help because it's not like a diagnosed illness which can just be treated. Not everyone has the same problems with it. In my case it's largely stress-related and means I feel nauseous when I'm nervous or stressed, although I've noticed this has improved a LOT since I've got older. I also have the bloatedness and the swelling quite a lot - Kaffrin I know what you mean about looking pregnant, and it's horrible innit? I wish I knew what caused that - I can't really pinpoint a particular food which does it, it just seems to happen.

But what I hate most is the fact that it's called Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Like if my stomach's playing up and I'm in pain, I really don't want to say 'sorry, it's my irritable bowel'. I usually say something like 'I have a stomach thing which I sometimes get', which just sounds stupid.

I saw something that said a certain bacteria in milk and dairy products may make it worse or even cause it - they showed one girl and she cut down on the diary products and only drunk mlk after boiling it to kill the bacteria and she got much better.

The other thing is if you are on Antibiotics that messes up your digestive system - killing the good bacteria that help digest food - but you can get probiotic yougurts and supplements that may help.
