Reading a newspaper is all about choice, you CHOOSE to read what YOU like not what other people WANT you to read and you certainly dont call them a dopey bitch because they read a newspaper that you do not like for whatever reason

BUt if you refuse to involve yourself in whats going on in your country and world on a regular basis by not 'taking things too seriously' then why should anyone listen to your views on serious issues? What you don't realise is that the Murdoch rags and the Daily Hate Mail insidiously implant their bigoted, racist views in you without you even noticing. All newspaper writing is written to persuade from a political point of view, the tabloids are no different and exposing yourself regularly to the xenophobic rants of the Sun, Mail, Star etc etc will lead to your outlook being subtly changed.

(P.S Am V. stoned and not sure whether making sense. Slap me if i'm not.)

Stupid for exposing themselves to the vile messages of those stinking rotten cesspools of our society.

I agree Becky, Guardian readers all think they’re so clever, even though they tend to be economic underachievers. At the end of the day for every Guardian reader in the UK there are 30 who read the Sun and the Mail, mainly becuase the Guardian political stance is a pile of S#*t

Me, I personally would take the Telegraph of the Times, but the wife buts the Mail.

Readers of the Guardian all have distorted views :p
They don't have any reason to feel superior or pompous, at all.

Renzokuken the comment I made was we cant judge people by what newspaper we read however Monocrat labels me as *dopey bitch* because I read tabloids........hardly the same comparison do you think?

i buy the daily mirror and the guardian most days and have done for the last 30yrs ...so for those of you who judge people by the newspaper they read ...your fucked now aren't you! as for the daily mirror ...they have the likes of the great ...realy great john pilger writting for them ...he's a legend.
and if becky and my missus want to while away their breakfast reading about royals and celebs why does that make them lower in the social scale than you mono?
my wife has zero interest in politics ...but very serious interests in medical stuff.
my doctor reads the daily mirror ...what should i tell him?

Both these points are pretty illogical.

Firstly, Guardian readers "tending to be economic underacheivers" (if this is true) is probably not because they want to earn 5 figure salaries in executive jobs and fail, but because they tend to want to pursue more morally/socially minded careers, which are naturally underpaid. I don't think many people would take you seriously if you are suggesting that the Guardian is aimed at a lower IQ than the Sun.

As for your second point, in Germany in the 1930s the Nazis were the majority, which didn't make them right. More people read the Sun and the Mail for complex reasons (partly because most Sun readers don't read the "political" sections, just the dear deidre and sport sections), but in the main its because the simplistic racist and xenophobic views are "easier to understand" and cater for stupider and less well educated people- which far outweigh the opposite in this country.

Personally i'd rather be pompous than racist. You may not be racist yourself but if you take the trouble to really analyse the messages in your Sun or Mail then you will realise wha blinkered, destructive views they disseminate.

(P.S I think there is definately a place for tabloids but am uninterested personally. The Mirror is only a pile 'o' shite because of its publicity seeking dong of an editor at the moment.)

Do you even care that becase of the factors you have just reported our PM is effectively a subordinate to Rupert Murdoch? Subjecting yourself to be brainwashed by a press that runs on fear and hysteria is accepting an uninformed, simplistic and pointless political life for yourself. Why not try and see a bigger picture?

I never realise that people are getting judged so much by which newspaper they read, I find the whole thing diabolical I really do.

Everyone to their own I say.

I try not to judge people on the paper they read, but it can reflect the world view of that person.
Did you know the Daily Mail were supporters of Mosley and expressed support for Hitler in the 30's? Not much has changed since then either.

the relity is BS ...that in this free market thatcherised world ...cos thats what it is ...there is an element of truth in that statement. the people who actualy believe it to be true ...realy do believe it. when confronted with other kinds of worth they will agree with you that of course ...but inside they have a feeling of ...'how quiant'.

Reducing people to commodities is the main reason why society is so fucked up IMO.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
It's only certain kind of people who would judge others solely on their wealth anyway... and they are best avoided.

In any case The Guardian is the most expensive daily there is- more than twice the price of the S*n, whose owner always ensures the rag is not one penny more than its direct rival the Mirror. So perhaps Guardian readers are not so skint and S*n "readers" are not so wealthy; or perhaps is that they don't value the quality the paper much, judging by the Dirty Digger's apparent worry that they might all defect to the Mirror if it sells 2p cheaper.

But if we really must break down and analyse the readers of newspapers I'd be more interesting to look at issues other than their relative wealth. I'd be most interested to compare the IQ of the average S*n "reader'' against that of a Guardian reader, wouldn't you Paul?

Does that mean that the person with the most money when they die is the winner?

Guess that rules out nurses, but I guess you wouldn't consider them a success then...

I always thought people's worth was inversally proportional to their wealth. For instance, the richer you become the less of a human being you are.
