Headaches, oooooooh the pain

I've been getting 'headaches' - my mum says that they are too short to be classed as headaches (they generally last between 5-10 mins) - several times a day since the end of October. At first I thought they were brought on by stress and I thought I would wait until the Christmas holidays to see. But they got steadily worse and when my mum took me to see the doctor I got prescribed migraine tablets. These didn't work AT ALL, and actually made them worse, as well as making me sleep for 14 hours non - stop! So I stopped taking them, but the headaches refused to stop, sometimes they were so bad they stopped me from doing my work at school. So my mum decided to go to the pharmacist at Tesco and she reccommended vitamin tablets, they have kind of helped but the other day in Science I got a REALLY bad headache and I could not do my work. Does anyone else have this and know of any ways I can help stop them? Or at least make them less severe!?

Thanks :)

Franki :P:P:P

i used to get headaches a lot, went to my doctor and he told me to cut down on the amount of caffein I took in, so i stopped drinking tea and coffee and eating chocolate completely for a couple of weeks, and it really helped. But then I started again and they came back.

    the end.

I totally sympathise you, and definitely disagree that just cos they're short they don't qualify as proper headaches! I've suffered from short headaches first thing in the morning for about 4 or 5 years now. I've tried every thing to stop them (my g.p's gone through every option- sinus related, migraines etc), and seen a consultant to check it wasn't anything more sinster. The closest I've got to stopping them is while I was on the pill, which has made my g.p think they might be hormonal. I'd definitely suggest you try stopping your intake of caffeine for a while, that also seemed to make a bit of a difference for me. And I don't know if it's been suggested, but you should keep a diary of your headaches (date, time, duration, severity), and see if some sort of pattern emerges. For instance, when I did this I realised that my headaches were more frequent and more severe just before my period, which led my doc to start me on the pill. Good luck hun, and don't let your doc fob you off, they should keep searching until they find an answer.

You CAN get headaches that start and stop very quickly. Make a note of how often they happen, and go back to your doctor. Get yourself referred to a specialist if necessary. It could be a number of things, and needs to be checked out. It might be cluster headaches, or tension headaches, but you need to get it diagnosed by a doc.

I will try and do the diary thing, but I don't think it's a caffeine thing, I don't like tea, coffee or coke, and I don't eat a lot of chocolate (brings me out in spots :p). I will try and get my mum to take me back to the doctors again, see if they have anything else to suggest, thanks for the advice :D

If it is migraines that you get then acupuncture and craneology can work

It isn't migraines otherwise surely they would last longer? My mums last about 2-3 days. And besides, if they were then the pills would have worked surely? Plus, aren't those things expensive????

I used to have them, usually after driving, watching tv, cinema etc, turned out I needed glasses for doing those things. Soon stopped them.

Perhaps you could go to an Opticians and just check if your eyes are alright?

My older sister suggested that because she used to get them, but it's not like at specific times like those things, it's just any time, like I could be stood in the playground doing nothing and I would get one.
