If you have schizophrenia, does it get passed onto your children?

(I can't remember the word for it!) :)

    My mum has it and I wondered if this means that I have more chance of having it!?! :)

    The billion doller question ... the answer isn't clear cut by any means, studies have suggested that both genes and the environment are responsible for Schizophrenia (see here ) and have also found that close blood relatives of schizophrenics are 10 times more likely than the general population to develop it too (more ). This doesn't mean you will though, it's all chance.

    One good site for you to visit would be rethink formerly the National Schizophrenia Fellowship
