I was just wondering which one to get.

I'm reckonging an X-Box, cos they are the most powerful. I could get a gamecube... but the games are a little childish and it isn't as good as an X-Box. Playstation 2's eurgh. Hate them. Hate Playstation. so lame.

So any opinions on what I should get?

I would personally go with the PS2. Bigger choice of games. But then again I get them *cough*cheap*cough* so maybe that has a big factor in my decision.

Go with the Xbox. You seem to have your heart set on it anyway :p

Get an Xbox mate! Some of the best games out there are on the Xbox (Halo, MotoGP, Steel Battalion) - the contolers are better - and finally you have the option of getting Xbox live and playing other Xbox owners around the world.

The only thing Xbox owers are missing is Vice City ...but nevermind it's not that good! :D

For game range and availability, it has to be PS2, but X-Box is catching up, personally, i have both, i needed the PS2 for GTA and Vice City, and after I saw the advert for Steel Batallion, i needed XBox, only thing is, Steel Batallion is sold out world wide, but check it out, it has a 42 button control deck, AWESOME!

    PS2 baby, yeah.

Though my mate got a X-Box just for that game. Toejam and Earl 3 or something.

Anything but the X Box as far as im concerned.

as a player of all 3 consoles i believe i have a more worthy opinion than those who sit and snipe from behind Sony HQ etc... but then it seems you've already made your mind up on the xbox, usually i try to educate people about consoles but most seem to not want to try anything different just take sides with one console and deny that anything great could be available for the others.

    Gamecube:

easily the best control pad of the lot, it's actually ergonomic rather than just vaguely 'hand shaped' like the other 2 consoles.

it's a really solid little machine, comes with a handle for beating your mates around the head with.

it's dirt cheap... if you look in the right places you can get one plus a game for £100, or even an import machine (but i highly doubt you'd want one) for £40.

contrary to virtually everyone else's beliefs, the gamecube is aimed at everyone... it enables kids to play along with parents. games that look 'kiddy' have depth beyond that of any of your 'adult' looking games, they keep you coming back for more. (see Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine, MonkeyBall, Zelda [when it's released], for a start.) but as it stands, game releases are a bit few and far between, it's always been this way for Nintendo in europe and i doubt it'll change soon.

    PS2

the 'daddy', oldest of the lot with an absolutely astonishing amount of games. you'll be able to find a game to suit your tastes no matter what you're interested in, horse racing, golf, ninjas, shooting things... (though whether the games are any good is a matter of opinion, for every decent game released there's maybe 7 others that are crap)

it's home to some criminally overlooked titles, mainly 'cos it's aimed at 13-19yr olds who they think blood, guts, guns, swearing and sequels is all they want (they seem right unfortunately). games like Rez, Ico and Frequency are overlooked because they contain nothing 'adult'. if you'll notice, a lot more 'kids' own a PS2 than a gamecube... ever since the newspapers branded the gamecube games 'childish looking' everyone else ran to the PS2. now it has some excellent mainstream games, ones that appeal to everyone judging by the sales charts, but the only one to vaguely interest me (aside from those 3 games above) has been GTA3...

the hardware itself is aging, Polyphony (makers of Gran Turismo) claimed they're only using some 30% of the graphical power of the PS2... now this is where there's some arguments, original specs claimed some 70 million polygons, they meant plain old wireframe polys with no effects, the real number is more like 7 million with effects... it's not a bad thing, i just don't like the way everyone hails it as the best console when it quite clearly isn't. it's a good console to get if you want a quick blast on something with friends after going to the pub but it doesn't really have many multiplayer games, it's more of a 'sad lonely no mates' console (which they agree with by only putting 2 controller ports on the front)

'tis also still too expensive. the pads though are the best standard ones if you like fighting games (of which there are maybe 3 out for the console :( )

they also seem to just stop working for no reason, if you play it for any length of time, build quality varies quite a lot, some seem to be put together by uninterested monkeys. mine developed a quite scary rattle some month after i bought it, a few smacks and it was better, though if not seen to it'll rip your games to pieces.

    and now...

    Xbox

first off, it's a monster in every respect, blatantly american in origin, and extremely ugly console with a stupidly oversized controller (get a controller S imported). though with it's considerable size and weight, it means that it's REALLY solid. whereas the cd tray on the PS2 seems like it could come off in a strong breeze, the xbox tray is well made and slides out smoothly instead of that jerky ps2 crap.

it has a hard drive, which is superb. really is. (i'll explain a bit more later if you're still reading, which i doubt you are)

though there aren't that many games out for it, the xbox still has a decent amount of gaming for you to be getting on with, first off, get another 3 pads and 3 mates and begin with Halo... you won't need another game for quite some time. it really is that good. the AI on the enemies is quite frankly, scary... they run around and try to flank you, toss grenades with frightening accuracy and generally deal out beat downs if you're not trying hard enough. then there's multiplayer..................... you will play this game for HOURS AND HOURS with friends... i've lost a significant chunk of my life from playing this.

it's £160, £10 cheaper than the PS2 and comes equipped with more kit, Microsoft are losing some serious cash giving it to you at that price, they were losing something like £60 selling it at the original £300....

as i said, the hard drive, you'll never need a memory card again (well maybe one between you and your xbox owning mates for transferring files) your own music can be put into certain games so you don't have to listen to the sometimes awful in game soundtrack.

now the hard drive... this is for the more 'advanced' gaming crew, but you can swap out the original hard drive and stick in a much larger one (it is after all, just a slightly differently configured pc) with this you can hook that baby up to your pc and download all sorts of stuff, movies, music, pictures, games (so you never have to worry about losing the disc or lending it to your mates ever again) you can also use emulators, meaning it's essentially about 12 consoles in one. gamecube, dreamcast and PS2 emulators are being worked on as we speak so pretty soon you can play anything you want on it alongside classics such as Pacman and Super Mario Bros.

(sticking a new hard drive and fiddling about with the internals voids your warranty, it also means you can't play online with it as your console will be banned when you log on. it all depends on what you want, online gaming or another pc that sits under your tv and does virtually everything... personally i'm gonna get one and crack it open and fiddle with it)

but yeah, those are my opinions, i doubt anyone will read them but hey, it occupied my time for 10/15 minutes... i just wanted to set a few things straight, i think i've done that. now i await the jeering from idiots..

    PS2!

It can play porno’s on it and pirates DVDs

Plus its got some Okish games!

I got both, Game Cube does seem better, but you need a Special remote to play DVDs on it tho, and I’m not sure if it plays pirates ones.

unless you have a 'Q', the gamecube doesn't play ANY dvds. ps2 plays only region 2 unless you get a regionx disc and xbox doesn't play any until you buy a remote, then it'll only play a certain region (2) unless you get it chipped to play everything...

and dvd quality on xbox is shed loads better than that £40 dvd player shite they put in the ps2.

I got a Gamecube which is nice and fun :) I totally go along with what big_man_with_a said earlier in this thread.. big downside is that they can't play DVD's...

The sucessor to the PS2 is coming out soon (relatively speaking), but for now it has a shitload of games!!
I'd recommend an XBox, but i hate the controllers... they're too big!

Oh Yeah. Got the X-box mixed up with that shitty Game cube

My brothers got the X-box but can’t be arsed to buy that remote. The PS2 plays DVD and all that, so I’ve got no need to get that remote for the X-Box. My PS2 plays pirate DVDs and porno. Only thing I really use it for

Also Need to get another Dvd player now that plays pirate ones, I hear the New DVD players no longer do that, and you have to get them chipped. :(

Umm out of presonal preference i'd say get an X-Box

I have both X-Box and PS2 and find the PS2 is hardly ever plugged in since most of its best games are heading over to other platforms it doesnt really impress me much

As fer the Game-Cube i couldnt really say but Res-Evil 0 looks awsome

Get a PS2. NOW!!! What else caters for your gaming needs better than a PS2. With games like Vice City, Tekken and Timpesplitters, you're sorted. Has everybody overlooked the fact that the PS2 had DVD Playback facilities and backwards compatability. Oh sure the X-Box may be newer and have a customisable soundtrack facility but all Microsoft are intersted in is controlling more of the electronics market. For a rsistance, Buy a PS2 and liberate yourself from the corporate madness.

Whichever one will let you play Resident Evil Zero, GTA3 and The Angel Of Darkness. And then when you're done, send it to me.

    PS2 then...

Dunno about the other games but Tombraider is PS2 only. I think res evil 0 might be the gamecube though.

I wouldn't get any console for DVD playback. I'd buy a stand alone DVD player that's designed to play them properly.

Resi Evil is exclusively for GC... well 0-4 anyway. as for tombraider that's been crap from the start, GTA3 is great though.

Why the fuck are gamecube games childish? They actually do some of the same games as playstation now I've seen. Gamecubes are the best for the games I think, but I've got a playstation two because of the dvd player and grand theft auto and crash bandicoot are cool.

    X-Box. X-Box live. 'Nuff said.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
The gamecube is sorely overlooked and a s a result is suffering the same way the Dreamcast did ....
It's got some cracking titles and is a damn fine machine at a ridiculously good price .... but people are swayed by the big brand that is Sony .... remember the PS2 is old !!! .. it's not in the league of the X-box or Cube but people seem too forget this ....
Big whoop it plays DVD's ... Doesn't mean it's a great games machine ... Just means it plays DVD's ... and you can level that at the Xbox too ..... The Xbox has a couple of decent titles but my money's on the Cube ... as long as people can get past this whole "kiddie game" thing .... Exactly what's "kiddie" about Resident Evil !!!

    but that's just my opinion ... :D

yea but for the x-box you get halo. i love zelda - on the N64. But oon the Gamecube its all cartoony :crying:

    It's not fair!!!

I'm definitly not getting a playstation 2. It's between gaecube and X-Box and X-Box is ahead - in my opinion it's the more powerful console and is more expensive so must be better
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Of course if it's more expensive then it MUST be better

PS2 is getting Resident Evil Online...when they pull their fingers out of their arses!

I would get a PS2 if I were you! My mates got a gamecube and they are quite shit! Nintendo have done the same mistake as they made for the N64, not concentrating enough on video and sound...I still think that the PS2 is best soundwise...

...graphics may be better on the Xbox, but look at the price of the games, you can get games for PS2 at £30 from argos now and Xbox games are still coming out at £40-£45!

i have a ps2, there are lots of good games on there, espesially pro evo 2, lots of skill needed to be good at dat.:)

Gamecube has the most enjoyable games in the world IMO. Sadly overlooked as being kiddy (normally by those insecure of their own maturity). Games are GAMES after all.

Here are a few random vids I found (mostly Japanese!)

    Games out now -

    Metroid Prime

    Star Fox

    Resident Evil 0

    Games coming soon -

    F-Zero

    Viewtiful Joe

    Killer 7

    Wario World

    Legend of Zelda

and then theres loads I couldn't find vids for like Pikmin, Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil 1, Mario Sunshine, Beach Spikers, Phantasy Star online...

If you look at this website - http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/simpleratings.asp?rankings=y you can see that based on average scores taken from all magazine and website reviews - Nintendo has created the 3 greatest games of all time - All 3 of them playable on Gamecube. No-one can knock that! Nintendo deserve the business - The console is cheap yet classy. Go buy now!

game cube games are quite cheap over here now, Curry's sell them for £25-30...which is better than paying £40-45 that woolworths and places like that charge.

That is the worst logic I have ever heard.

The X-Box might be more powerful, but what's powerful when you don't have the games to play on it?

I mean you're not gonna be sitting playing playing Zelda on the GameCube thinking "I wish I was playing Halo at a few more MHz faster".

GameCube has, and will continue to have better games than the X-Box.

In Brazil, a game cube game: 120R$
    a X-box game: 130R$
    a PS2 game: 10R$

    1 R$ = 3,4 Dolar
