dont you reckon if we didnt have career politicians, that life would be so much better?

EDIT: and i mean generally people who have gone to university to study politics, and care more for their careers than the country because tats all they been learning to do all their life

ie bush and tony blair

and america being extreme politically, hahahaha its like choosing between pepsi and coca cola, when you might want orange

other european countires though, too much in-fighting because of no real leadin parties, like in uk and usa

what i also think we need is our parties to actually think through what they want and presnt it to us clearly and consisely because im sure more people would vote then *dreads voting age lowerd to 16!!!*

Do you mean the people (all of us) governing the country?
    Or politicians not being paid?

Allow us all a moment to pause while we gather ourselves after that major shock, won't you?

Our people can be kicked out at any time and they still have to be watched. I read once that people in the UK like their government like their weather is: moderate without too many extemes. And so some of the laws and institutions you have in place might prevent big swings. Look at the US...from liberal Clinton to ultra-right Bush.

Most politicians enter politics to better society (at the least one would like to think that). Besides what is wrong in having ambition? For example, if a person is elected as a backbencher, is it wrong for them to desire being a cabinet minister or even the PM?

It has to be a career or it wouldn't work properly.

Also if you study the backgrounds of our politicians they do not normally live their lives in politics.

Blair studied law and practised as a lawyer I believe.

    Prescott was a trade unionist.

    William Hague worked in business

    etc, etc.......

Unfortunately, as a general rule of thumb, those most determined to gain power are those least deserving to wield it. This lovely little flaw in human nature basically means that no political system can be perfect, and none of them work as advertised by their supporters.

I agree that may people who could do so much good for their countries, don't get in because they don't know how to get elected. Or for being too honest instead of vague in their opinions.
