The problem with Northern Ireland is that there are so many identities, no-one really knows what to call them without offending some other grouping!!
Clandestine. On the Union Jack. One cross stands for St. George, patron saint of England. Another stands for St. Andrew, patron saint of Scotland. And the other cross stands for St. Patrick, patron saint of Ireland.
(jokes you english guys:p )
so, backtracking on claims that ALL the marchers are anti semites [even the holocaust survivors!], by claiming that anyone carrying a palestinian flag is hitlers grandchild?
you are seriously screwed aren't you, and you can no longer tell what is spin by your media and what is going on. Yes, theer are wrongs on both sides, but the palestinian:israeli death toll is 9:1 - so who are the ones basically commiting modern day genocide?
But i forgot. If you are anti-israeli POLICIES you're necessarily a supporter of the holocaust - ther4e's that duality again....
edited to fix some typos
By the way, does anyone know why the Ulster flag features an English St George's cross and not an Irish St patrick's cross?
I think you will find that the vast majority of Scots and Welsh are fully urbanised........
Exactly. All the people live in urban areas, but there are very few urban areas. Lets face it, Yorkshire has more cities than Wales.
Does it stand for loyalty to the crown and England? Isn't that the cross on the Union Jack that stands for St. George.
I've learned a lot from the posts on this thread...love it.
I think St George's cross was probably used by the Northern Ireland government to show alliance to England and the crown. It is still a big issue in Northern Ireland as many nationalists and catholics see the flag as a symbol of the old Stormont Government which was dominated by the Protestant majority during 1920 - 1969 when the troubles began.
Here are some links which show just how much this issue still continues to trouble Northern Ireland today

It might well be bigger and more populace as well..........
"It makes sense to you. You would probably regard Bob Geldof, Anthony Hopkins and Billy Connolly as three of the finest living Englishmen..."
Uncle Joe
You left out Sean Connery and Burt from Mary Poppins.
Wasn't Burt's accent dead on.
Because Ulstermen are largely English settlers or Scottish settlers and retain their attachment to this country while ruining both countries relations by refusing to be a minority in a unified Ireland...
I'm an Irishman, so I give you my permission. We like everyone to join in on paddies day:D
Plus its huge in Scotland and if I'm not mistaken, is an excuse to party in England these days as well.
Yup...you said something wrong.
FIRSTLY....Irelan isn't part of the UK and so if there are Irish people in the UK its kind of insignificant (Same as all the 'others')
I was born in England but raised in Wales (Moved to Ireland then Wales) and unlike America there is a hell of a lot of culture that comes along with being a celt. I have nothing agains the English as a nation today but they did march into the priovinces and forced the Welsh and Scottish (And the Irish) to stop speaking their own language. perhaps you should read up about the Welsh Not? ...
Its a typical thing for Americans to call the UK 'England' but thats OK...we forgive you, its because you are stupid and uncultured .
Incidentally - the Welsh flag is not represented in the union jack which could be seen as a good thing, why the hell would we want to be!!
Come to Wales and be intimidated...go on I dare you!!
and I think you will find that in wales the majority of people are Welsh...similarly in scotland. Its like saying The USA is bigger than Italy so all italians should go under the banner of AMERICAn.
Wales and Scotland are different coutries....see....get it?..By the way do You EVER actually follow an argument through, you seem to start them and then back down whenever there is a good argumnent, and it just seems that the palce is flooded with your half finished threads that you bow out off when the going gets tough...you need to have courage in your statements and stop being such a lily livered pain in the butt
The term England is a corruption of the term 'Angleland' as English people are descended from Anglo-Saxons which were tribes that settled in (what is now) England after the fall of the Roman Empire.
By your rationale, the US should be renamed California as its the most populous state.
Have you ever spent any time in and around the numerous regions of the UK? or even within London itself? No, id suspect not! I could take you to areas where Brits would roll you faster than you could blink your eye without so much as a "how do you do?". No different than numerous areas around the States or elsewhere in Europe or the world for that matter.
Secondly, have you ever visited or spent any time experiencing people and places on the European continent? No again.
Yet you continue to advertise your ignorance of other cultures and people's and blanketly label them this and that and then have the gall to announce that they are "Anti-American", which the vast majority are not. However, with narrow, uninformed minds such as your own spouting insulting and nonsensical claims picked up from sources with as little credibility as the NY Post, I wouldnt blame any here for so adopting such views toward our citizens if they did in fact feel so inclined.
Fact is, Europeans speak more languages than most we Americans, are generally better read and more informed on world events and their complexities, and have a much more conciliatory attitude even towards knee jerk reactionaries such as yourself.
You really should go back and ask your father to teach you some values and respect for the world till you are old enough and wise enough to perhaps travel outside your dark little mental box into the wider world, where you will discover that nations, cultures and people do not in fact match your current warped beliefs.
Your own character could do with some serious attention without a doubt!
Ever realize that Americans are one of the world's only developed countries where there are NEVER marches that knock other countries. No, we embrace the best from all of them. The jealousy, and disloyal of France, Germany and Belguim has never been more obvious then when compared to the English character shown by the UK in going to fight Al Qaeda's enablers in Iraq.
BYNY there's articles in a bunch of the papers today about Europeans being nasty to and spitting on American tourists.
So I'm pissed but I wasn't going to Europe anyways....more like Disney World Yay! But other Americans I'm sure were. I keep reminding myself that most of the European governments support us.
