Why has there been a deferential decline in society?

Decades ago, people would be more inclined to show 'deference' or respect to those of a higher standing in society (that's one reason why some working class people voted Conservative as Tories were seen as being better educated).

Today, this is not the case. Why?

Post-modern decline in hierarchicalisation of society?

    Liberalisation of society from structuralism?

Rise of critiques enabling no knowledge to be absolute?

Perhaps because people are finally waking up to the overriding self interest of an ever smaller elite cadre with an ever increasing control over financial resources and governing authority.

Humanity has evolved in term of knowledge. When people believed royalty had some God given right to rule, people were uneducated. Censureship ensured people wouldn't know the failings of royalty.

People know the truth more now. I see humanity rising with each new generation.

Increase in information leads to debunking myths of superiority.

Also increase in working class ideologies, and a belief in democracy and equality..........

Actually real wages in the United States have been declining for decades just like the American family. Americans work longer and harder hours today for the same if not a lesser standard of living. Throughout all the so-called boom years of the late 1990s corporate profits actually shrank. The so-called boom was entirely artificial - created by the Federal Reserve manipulating interest rates and the money supply. Americans are not improving with each generation either. The college graduate in America today actually has the same if not less education than a high school graduate of the 1950s. Poverty is SOARING in high immigrant areas like California and America's industrial strength is in its twighlight years. Fiscally, America has never been worse off since the early years of the Republic. America's economy is increasingly based on export of raw materials and service, economically, America is going backwards.

Monocrat I was thinking about something. The question reminded me how one of the big connections between Bush and Blair is that the Bush family is related to so many of the "tops" in the UK like the Spensor family. He is also related to Winston Churchill and can trace his family to your first King William of Normandy.

Maybe a better question would be to ask why there has been a deferential decline in the family?
