Yeah get your own place!!! More privacy and also you can have all your friends over, have more parties etc etc, I would jump at the chance of my own place!!! :eek2: :naughty: :eek2:

Are you stating that as a fact or opinion? If you're trying to pass it as fact then you're wrong. Many universities won't even try to find accomodation for students they deem to be 'local'.

At Durham you had to live in in your first year at least. That was what all the official stuff told you and those were the rules, even if you lived in Durham. However, someone I knew from school just told them he didn't want to live in after he got an offer from them and they couldn't withdraw the offer so he lived at home.

I lived in halls during my first term and hated every minute of it. If you have close friends at home and/or a partner then moving away can be a risky thing.
If you're going to move away then move as far away as possible is my advice. I moved away to a uni 10 miles from home and spent every weekend on a bus going home to see my mates!

At least if you are far away you can't be tempted to do that!

There are major plus points, most of them financial about staying at home, however as you live in London you might find it cheaper to live somewhere else.

Sorry if none of this helps!

It was neither fact nor opinion it was advice! ;)

Advice so strong, that I replaced the "don't" with "you can't" :D

I loved my time in Halls of Residence. One of the best things is that it is full people you wouldn't normally choose to live with - it broadens the mind.

I think living at home can be beneficial when ur in ur first year at uni, coz just think of the money u'll be saving on food n stuff. However having said that, living in the Halls gives u more freedom etc. I lived at home during my first year at uni but i'm lucky enough to have a parent who doesn't bother about the coming in late from clubs n stuff, plus i got to stay rent free (always a plus!!) I definitely think u should weigh up the living costs before deciding coz i know too many ppl who live away from home and can't afford to buy food but then again thats probably down to the amount of money they spend socialising. I dunno if any of what i've said makes any sense, but i thought i'd put my penny's worth in:)

I was tempted to live at home this year as I am going to a local uni, but I am glad my Mum encoruaged me to move out. Uni is about growing up and looking after yourself as well as having freedom. I hated halls, it's not for everyone, but am so far perfectly happy in a shared house.

Halls are hell. I've visited other students living in halls, and they're just hell. Everybody just wants to get out of them ASAP. They're noisy, messy, cramped places, and I wouldn't reccomend them to anyone.
I would never ever ever live in halls.`
Shared houses can be just as much hell though. I had to work with one student who constantly cursed the arseholes he shared a house with. They were untidy, noisy, and rude. They made noise until around 3 am almost every night, and that affected his work badly. He hated going back there after a day at Uni, but was stuck with it as he had paid his rent in advance.
Best is to try and find a house or flat to share with as fewer people as possible, and make sure (as best you can) that they're compatible with yourself.

I agree with you there. I am going to stay local, i love the uni but for reasons of teh uni i can live in the halls, therefore i am perfectly happy remaining at home :)
