Social workers

We have to fight for me to get under the disability team, which meant I went though a number of teams before I got where I am now.

First they don't me I wasn't disabled (which is ironic now I am under life long services which means you have a disability that means you are likely to need social care support for life). Then I was under safeguarding team. Then I was under child in need team. Then I was under life long services, under children's disability team, specifically the choice team. Now I am under life long services, adults social care, transition team. Which I will be under until my EHCP finishes and then I have to move again.

Out of how ever many social workers I went through in that time (it's only been 2 years and about 6 social workers I think) only 2 have been good. I have also often had the managers involved. One of them repeatedly got my mum's name wrong (and on the paperwork), the same one also often refused to communicate with me and adults around had to chase them up loads before they replied. A few of them have been worse but they weren't around for as long.

My current social worker is amazing and it is so refreshing to have a social worker who is working with us rather than having to fight them on everything. Like my current social worker actually replied to my emails, sends holding emails, listens to me and doesn't minimise stuff, works to get me stuff I need rather than us having to fight. They are actually an autism in adults specialist which is really helpful. I

What's your experiences of social workers been?

@sailingswallows Hey again it looks like you’ve been with a lot of social workers and I’m sorry that half of them wasn’t a very good experience. I can’t really say much because I haven’t had any social workers but I’m glad your current social worker is working with you and your family properly. Stay strong 💛☺️

Sorry to hear your experience with social workers has been bad.

My social workers and experience with social workers has been pretty awful tbh. They removed me from my home and don't class me as formally looked after. It's frustrating that they didn't do what was best for me and just abandoned me and left me to pick up the pieces but hey that's how they save money.

    hi @Anch0r33
thats horrible, are you still under 18 or not? Have you made a formal complaint (we are currently having to make a complaint about AMHS and I haven't even met them yet)
    Do you have any support?
    Ge

Sorry I've just seen this now! Nah I'm 21 but still could/should be classed as continuing care, not sure if they have that in England.

I've actually made 2 formal complaints now and my advocate has been amazing. I'm getting to meet one of my old social workers who will hopefully have a lot of explaining to do
