Do I need help?

Hi, not sure if this is the right place to ask. I’ve recently started self harming again for the first time in about 3 years. I think about it all day every day and I can’t switch it off. I’ve also got other issues like intense mood swings that happen multiple times a day. I feel like if I go to the GP I’m wasting their time because I’m not as bad as other people. What do I do?

    Hey @EmmaB1997

Welcome to The Mix community, good to have you here

It's really positive that you've taken the step to open up to us on here

Have you ever heard of DocReady it's an amazing resource to help when you are talking to a GP about mental health.

You wont be wasting the doctors time, they are there to support people and help. You mention not being as bad as other people? Sometimes it's easy to think that, but our own problems are very valid and just as important.

    Sending hugs
" And everywhere I am, there you'll be, your love made me make it through, oh I owe so much to you "
" So I say thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing, thanks for all the joy they're bringing, who can live without it, I ask in all honestly what would life be? Without a song or a dance, what are we? So I say thank you for the music, for giving it to me "

I'll copy and paste @independent_ 's reply to this thread so everything is in one place :)

Hi there @EmmaB1997, and welcome to the boards it’s great to have you here in this community.

I’m sorry to hear what you’re going through with your mental health at the moment. It sounds like you’ve had a tough time over the past few years and a lot of us on here will be able to relate with you on some level so it’s great you found us.

It’s important to know that by going to your GP you are absolutely not wasting their time and in fact I think you would be very brave if you did go.

It’s ok to admit that you aren’t feeling ok in your head and not wasting anyone’s time.

I wish you all the best, take care

    Hi @EmmaB1997

Welcome to the boards and well done for reaching out! You will always have support in us over here

The GP can be a helpful place to turn when you are feeling this way - they can certainly help you towards getting the support you truly deserve  Just to echo what @bananamonkey has said, your feelings are totally valid and they always will be. You won't be wasting their time at all

And remember, you can always talk to us too. The Mix has a bunch of other support tools too which you can find here, if any of those may be helpful

When you're asking yourself the question "do i need help" then the answer is a yes to be even question that. You're deserving of help just like others. How things affect people Are different but you will never be wasting their time. It's great you find the courage to seek help here <3
“And when they look at you, they won't see everything you've been through. They won't see the **** that turned to scars that began to fade with time. They won't see the heartbreaking things that shook up and changed your entire world. They won't know how many tears you cried or even what it was you were crying about. They won't see how strong you had to be because you had no other choice. What they will see though is how compassionate you are because you experienced pain. What they will see is how kind you are because you experienced how cruel the world is. What they will see is how good you are because you've seen how bad things or people can be. The difference between you and your experiences are who you choose to be, despite everything that could have turned you cold and unkind. You are the good the world needs and the best of us.” ~ Kirsten Corley
