How to report a post

These discussion boards are a safe, supportive place where you can talk about pretty much anything that's on your mind :)

Sometimes however, someone might post something that isn't particularly supportive, relevant or friendly. This can range from just being annoying (like spam) to actually being hurtful, such as if someone posts something hostile or insulting.

If you come across a post that doesn't feel like it belongs here or that makes you uncomfortable for any reason, you can let us know by reporting it.

How to report a post

1. Find the post you want to report. You'll see a Flag button at the bottom of the post, just underneath the main text:

2. Click or tap the flag button and you'll find two options:

3. If you want to report the post because it breaks guidelines or makes you uncomfortable, press the Report button. Doing so will show you a pop-up window with some extra options:

Choose the option that's most relevant, add more info in the Notes box at the bottom and hit the Send Report button. The moderator team will pick up your report and decide what to do with the post.

Note: the mod team will usually get back to you to let you know what action was taken (if any) via private message. If your post is reported by someone else and is then removed by the mod team, we will always let you know why.

How to report a post as spam

1. Find the post you want to report. You'll see a Flag button at the bottom of the post, just underneath the main text:

2. Click or tap the flag button and you'll find two options:

3. Hit the Spam button and your spam report will be submitted straight away!

Note: as members of the community, you can delete spam without having to wait for the moderator team! If 5 people separately report the same post as spam, it will be automatically hidden (until a mod deletes it).
Remember, reporting a post as spam is public and should only be used when a post is clearly spam.

What is spam? :warning:

Spam is any unwanted post or message that is designed to sell you something or get you to click on a dodgy link. You've probably got lots of it sitting in your spam/junk email folder! Spam is not only super annoying, but can also be more sinister by trying to get you to give up personal information or spread computer viruses/malware. So, it's important to be on the lookout for it so we can take it down quickly!

Here are some things to look out for:
  • Does the post sound like an advert?
  • Does it contain suspicious-looking links (don't click them!)
  • Does the English sound a bit 'Google translate'?
  • Is the poster a new member?
  • Is their username mainly random letters or numbers?
  • Are their other posts similar?
If the answer to some or most of the above is yes, the chances are you're looking at spam and you should report it!

If you're not sure, you can still report it in the usual way (as explained above) and let us know.
We're @Aife, @Ella, @Emma_, @Gemma, and @JustV - the staff team here at The Mix.

Our DMs are monitored Monday - Friday (10am - 6pm) with limited cover on weekends. We have a great team of moderators looking after the community outside of those hours to check in on any reported posts.

We're not able to provide support on this account. If you need support urgently for any reason, please call 999, go to your nearest A&E or contact Crisis Messenger by texting THEMIX to 85258.

hi @Salix_alba_2019, good question. I think the quickest and easiest way is to report a post or comment made by them, select the 'other' option and mention the concern and a mod/staff will look into it

Yep! Alternatively, you can PM us detailing the concern and we'll happily talk it through. :)
