Just voted and just wondering if anyone knows why we vote in pencil and not pen?
Well Done Shaunie! :) I just asked @Ed_ and he thinks its because if it rains or gets wet pencil doesn't run like pen does.

Yeah, I agree with that post. Personally I like Corbyn, but if you don't, that doesn't have to stop you from voting for Labour. What matters is Labour's manifesto and how they'll be better than Tories.

We probably vote with pencils so that they can use an eraser to remove your vote ;) In seriousness, I don't know, that's interesting.

Just looked into it a bit more, and it basically risks it making it look like you spolit your ballot, so if you vote in more than one box, they don't count your vote. I am always paranoid that either I have crossed the wrong box, or have not crossed it in a way that is legible! :#

I actually made an anonymous social media acount today so I can post and repost things about voting Labour. That probably sounds silly but I thought I may as well. I'm under a fake name too so I won't take any hate I get quite as personally.

Obviously people can vote how they see right, but I suppose I don't want to give up on what's important to me.

Do what you gotta do! You're sharing information (hopefully no accidental fake news, there is SO much out there) to help people make decisions.

Nice to see so much chat about this today. Big moment...

I think I should become Prime Minister ;) I'll join Tories and be their leader. That way, everyone will vote for them still because that's just what they do, but I'll ensure the country's run as best as it can be and I definitely won't be selling or ruining the NHS. Lol.

Wanted to nip in and say I did vote!

I honestly feel it won't make no difference and I'm expecting to wake up disappointed but I gave it my best shot and that's better than nothing :)

In a weird twist of fate my constituency voted in a conservative MP for the first time in a lifetime. We voted overwhelmingly for brexit in this area and there's a strong distrust for Jezza so it could be either of those reasons. And I think more people like Bojo than liked Tresemmé?
    but idk tho

This election has made me start thinking about maybe becoming an activist or politician. I want to make a difference. I'm not sure if I have the right strengths for it but I've started wondering about it.

It's great that you want to make a difference. Politics, activism, and advocacy is one of the best ways to make a difference. I don't think there are any specific "strengths" that make someone better for activism. The most important thing is that you are passionate about something

    The beauty of activism @Kathleen07
Is that you can mold it around your strengths.
A lot of people incorporate activism into what they do,

If you've ever heard of Banksy. They express their politic and social views through street art/painting.  Artists like the 1975 and some rappers express theirs through music.
And someone in my college does through fashion.

I do by making loads of posters for the billboard in college and some in the local church :)

And on a bit of a hateful shrew moment regarding politics 😂
Looking at most politicians, they don't have any particular strengths because everyone is different, different parties, different views, and they aren't all that great  so well, you totally have a chance lol x

If you really want to go for it! You could make a difference in your local area :)

Thank you @Jordan @Laine! I've fairly quickly decided against politician I think, just because I have goals to be a musician and don't think I want a whole career in politics, but activism and advocacy stuff is definitely something I'd like to do. My mom's suggested I join Young Labour which I'm considering - I can support them and it's a good way to socialise and put myself to use :)

Honestly, if you want to go into activism or politics go for it! :) While you're at it can you scrap the TV license, the house of lords, and find a way to make a proportional voting system work at representing areas the way MPs do? :joy:
    but idk tho

Ooh I forgot about that Kathleen! Young labour is pretty great you can also get involved volunteering if you have free time. I posted leaflets this election and handled a few phone calls it was great fun!

You can also get involved campaigning if it's your thing :)
