Talking about things

Charley7Charley7 Posts: 29 Boards Initiate
I find it so difficult to talk about a few certain things that happened in my life.. a few people know basics but I’ve never sat down and told someone the whole story, it feels like if I tell it it becomes real. Everyone tells me talking helps but I never know how it’ll turn out.

    Hey!

Talking can definelty help & you're doing well to seek support here and it's a good place to start! It like this

Sometimes it can be hard at the start. But sometimes it has to get worse before it gets better. Knowing you're not allow and we will listen may be of some comfort to you. There's no pressure but we will be listening for when/if wanna speak more cause I think speaking is always good. It's hard and lonely to keep things to yourself

    take care x
“And when they look at you, they won't see everything you've been through. They won't see the **** that turned to scars that began to fade with time. They won't see the heartbreaking things that shook up and changed your entire world. They won't know how many tears you cried or even what it was you were crying about. They won't see how strong you had to be because you had no other choice. What they will see though is how compassionate you are because you experienced pain. What they will see is how kind you are because you experienced how cruel the world is. What they will see is how good you are because you've seen how bad things or people can be. The difference between you and your experiences are who you choose to be, despite everything that could have turned you cold and unkind. You are the good the world needs and the best of us.” ~ Kirsten Corley

I understand feeling scared to talk about it. As Shaunie said, talking can really help long term, but it can be so hard to do it.

Do you think it could help at all to start off with talking about one small little thing about it, and building up? I know you said a few people know the basics so I just had that thought x

    When you're ready

a few years ago I had the exact same mindset, so I understand how scary it is to open up but I can tell you it's so worth it!

what I found helpful in the beginning was to write everything down and show that to someone, It feels a bit easier than saying it, like I felt it was physically hard to open my mouth and make the words come out, they came out in chunks, so I thought it was easier to just keep quiet... then I started writing a journal, It took a while before I let anyone read it, but once they did they understood me better, I got the right support, and things just got better :)<3

Update to this, sunday night me and a friend sat down and she let me just talk at her (which I am so grateful for) and it seemed to help a lot but I did realise there were a lot of things that I hadn't thought about and its hard processing it again. Thank you all for the advice :)

You did really well by talking to your friend about it. It must be distressing and difficult to process things again
