Well, I thought I'd find all of you comiserators in here!

I have moved on. It happens every two or four years, a wave of euphoric patriotism sweeps the nation and we think we are going to be Kings of Europe/World, and every time, we come away crying our hearts out and 'Gutted'. Well we have to move on here. Believe it or not, life goes on.

Anyway, I thought I would rush to the defence of David Seaman, seeing as no one else will. He did us roud today. What short memories people have and how fickle the public are. The past few weeks, he has been the best keeper there, and no, he will become the latest in a long line of British footballing scape goats. As soon as England go out of a competition, the British press smear a footballer. You just watch. tommorrow in The Sun, there will be a dart board published with David Seaman as the bullseye. Look at the evidence.

'90 Chris waddle/Stuart Pearce/Gazza.
'96 Gareth Southgate
'98 David Beckham/David Batty.
'00 Keegan?

So please, cut the guy some slack. I'd like to see anyone else in a similar situation done better both there and throughout the tournanment. Allow him that stupid pony tail. It was probably his last competition. DON'T let it end for him, or the team, on a sour note.

I'm not so sure that there will be, I doubt anyone will see any of the team as not performing how the should, to that extent anyway.

    Look at the evidence.

Yes, let's look at the evidence. Apart from Beckham and Keegan none of those mentioned were vilified in the press.

Beckham because of his stupidity and Keegan because of his piss poor tactics (you could add Phil Neville for his poor tackle), but the others wren't attacked for what they did of didn't do. If anything we had sympathy for them.

As for Gazza, I think you will find that they 90 World Cup was the making of him, rather than the vilification. Vilification came after his horrendous tackles in the FA Cup Final the following year...
So please, cut the guy some slack.

Have I missed something, because it appears to me that you are the only one to have made any suggestion that Seaman could have done better...

I've no problem with David Seaman whatsoever, nor will 'the sun' I think the nation feels for him and he will be given the recpetion he deserves when he returns home.

I doubt whether Seaman would have saved that 'shot' even if he was standing on his line. He shouldn't be made a scapegoat as he has been one of our players of the tournament. Plus thw whole team didn't perform to there best.

Anyway, 18 months ago we were struggling to even qualify for the World Cup, bottom of the qualifiying group with one point, i think.

18 months on and we are knocked out in the World Cup quarter finals by Brazil. Somehow, looked upon this way it doesn't seem that bad.

Our team can only improve and they will have gained alot of experience for the world cup.

Things, my friend, can only get better :)

Seamen shouldnt and wont be made the capegoat. It wasnt his fault for the goal, shit like that happens in football. But more importantly he wont be made the scapegoat simply coz the nation love him!

He been a fantastic keeper for england over the last decade and we be sad to see him leave, if we cud we wud keep him as our national keeper for as long as possible.

I expect the press will give him a hard time, but hopefully, the public will see through that and not forget his outstanding service.

I think by the fact that we have come on here and not 1 person has blamed him or made him the scapegoat is a good thing.

We are the public and if this is how we feel, then i think this is how most of the country would probably feel as well

I so agree, everyone is blaming Seaman for us going out. It isn't his fault. He was the best goalkeeper over there; but you can't blame one man for a mistake that the whole team made.Seaman is the best thing tho happen to England since Ray Clemence,so give the guy a break!!!
I don't know about anyone else, but I sure as hell hope that Seaman will stick around for the Euro in 2 years, and for the next World Cup.
Cut the guy some slack and thank him for the 14 years of service he's done so far during his career,Seaman's a legend, so leave him alone!!

Sorry, do you see one person here getting stuck into him? From what I've seen of the British press, no one's really giving him grief.

Care to find some proof of your delusion?

Yo!Turtle!Delusions???maybe the press aren't slatin' the guy,but believe me when I tell you that most of the obnoxious footbal fans I know(non-arsenal fans),are blaming him completely. So when you have quite finished calling me 'delusional', I suggest you take the time to realize when somebody is giving an opinion based on what they know and have experienced.OK???
