Post of the month - November

TheMixTheMix Posts: 3,040 Boards Guru
Hey everyone,

It's time vote on a Post of the Month winner for November! Here's the nominees:

@LabraBell's thread 'The mutual support thread
This is a kind of compromise between the direct support of Support Chat (SC), and the specialised support of creating discussions. If you have something on your mind but don't want to create a whole discussion for it, then just pop a comment here.

Alternatively if you feel like you have some advice to give to one of the commenters, then by all means feel free! Just remember to mention them in your comment.

Consider this thread to be the same as the ranty thread that's quite commonly used; with the only difference being that it's more specialised for support rather than just ranting about something.

Try to stick to the rules you'd usually abide by in SC, as they are tried and tested and work well. This thread won't be moderated as directly as Support Chat, so it's up to you, the posters, to keep it a safe place for people to get support

I'll start.

----

A classmate has just passed on a message from my tutor, telling me to email her. I've been out of college for the past week because I've been trapped in a whirlwind of emotions regarding suicidal urges, so now I have to make the decision whether or not to tell her exactly what's going on, or tell her something vague that won't hold up if she questions it further. It's a massive dilemma because it's so hard to talk about to people T-T

Hey green tea welome to the mix x

First of all I'm really sorry to hear you're struggling.

You said when you reach out you don't get anything back in terms of support.

I was wondering how you've tried to reach out so far?  Have you talked to a family member? Your GP?  Or online service like Kooth?

Sorry to hear you feel at a loss but people do care and everyone in this community does. Have you tried going to your GP? And seeing if there's any help they can give?

If you want to talk about it there's plenty of places where you can get support such as: kooths online counselling, and the various options here: https://www.themix.org.uk/get-support/speak-to-our-team

There's also support chat that will be running tomorrow and circle that runs every Tuesday if you want more detailed support.

Best wishes xo

@Azziman 's reply in 'Tired of fighting parents'

Hi Ashleen,

Sorry to hear what you're going through. It doesn't sound like an easy environment to be in, for sure. I think it's important to take some perspective. Do your parents fight over anything in particular, or does it appear to happen over random topics? That might give some insight onto the real problem.

When parents are always fighting, it can often come at the expense of other family members. It sounds like your sister is being affected by it, and is struggling to come to terms with what is happening. She's not angry at you - it's more likely she is angry at the situation, at your parents, or maybe even herself if she feels responsible for this.

This isn't your fault. You aren't causing your sister's distress, nor are you causing your parents to fight. The fact that you feel responsible is only showing your good character - you want to help and sort things out, and that's a good thing!

For your own wellbeing, it might be best to spend some time away from your family. I don't mean move away, but spending time with friends can take you out of that environment. Or, you could go out with your sister to take you both away from there.

I'm sorry if this hasn't helped much - I really hope things get better soon. If you ever want to chat or rant, drop me a PM - I'd be happy to listen to youx

Much love 3
