Hi, im Sarah, 36 from Manchester. I had a bad experience from Alcohol two weeks ago and have made the decision to be teetotal. It’s made me reflect back on all of the times I’ve had a drink, done and said stupid things and woke up the next morning feeling utter regret. I don’t want to live like that anymore

Some of my friends are supportive but others are mocking and saying yeah right this won’t last. I’m absolutely determined I won’t be drinking again, I really don’t like myself or my behaviour when I drink.

Helle @Sazzle1981 and welcome to our boards! I admire your decision to take control of your drinking, but ignore the ones who are unsupportive. What do they know, anyway? The friends who remain supportive, they are the ones who matter. :thumb:

Everyone here is very supportive and caring. I hope you stay to enjoy your time with us.

Wishing you all the best and have a good week!

Welcome to the community, Sazzle! Just a heads up that we're primarily made up of 13-25s (unlike somewhere like Elefriends, who are geared more towards adults), and so a lot of the information you see around here might not be too relevant for your age group. You're welcome to stay and hang out of course, but just so you're aware.

    Hi Sazzle,

Welcome! Echoing what @Mirabelle said - those who'll support you are the people that matter. The ones that try and drag you down are simply the motivation, so that when you've succeeded, you know who you've defeated, and who's looking at your success with envy!!x

    Much love <3

    Welcome 👋🏻👋🏻
Even just lots of determination and belief in yourself goes v far, so I believe you can do it.
Even though it isn’t great when people are not supportive but maybe is a more of a motivator to even show them they’re wrong?

    All the best!
“And when they look at you, they won't see everything you've been through. They won't see the **** that turned to scars that began to fade with time. They won't see the heartbreaking things that shook up and changed your entire world. They won't know how many tears you cried or even what it was you were crying about. They won't see how strong you had to be because you had no other choice. What they will see though is how compassionate you are because you experienced pain. What they will see is how kind you are because you experienced how cruel the world is. What they will see is how good you are because you've seen how bad things or people can be. The difference between you and your experiences are who you choose to be, despite everything that could have turned you cold and unkind. You are the good the world needs and the best of us.” ~ Kirsten Corley
