Anxiety and need some support

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Hi I get anxiety which causes my tummy to make very loud noises. I feel like everyone judges me because of this as people used to tell me to keep my tummy quiet. This happened all the way through my a level results and now it happens during team meetings at my work. I guess what I want to know is does this happen to other people and what I can do about it.

Hey Emily, and welcome to the community. Glad you found us.

As an anxious person myself, I can relate to the weird things we we and our bodies do when we're feeling anxious. Things like a dry mouth, sweating, stomach noises and butterflies are all really common. The NHS have quite a good list of physical symptoms of generalised anxiety disorder (GAD):

    Physical symptoms of GAD

GAD can also have a number of physical symptoms, including:
Are you getting any sort of support for your anxiety at the moment? Have you ever seen a doctor, for example? :)

    Hey

I used to have this problem and think is more common then realise. I would get really anxious in social situations and think it caused it, and understand can feel embarrassing but many people get it. But i found the more i feared it the more it would happen cause i started fearing silence and that just increased my anixety twice as much. And as hard as it sounds but try not to think about it. I try to think about things like what im doing on weekend or when i get home.

And when I would go to places where it would be quite silent like in classes and Intherpay i would make sure I have eaten so not hunger nioses but not right before cause can make worse as stomach is digesting what just eaten. But youre not alone and would recommend going gp as could help. I hope your appiontment goes okay

    All the best
“And when they look at you, they won't see everything you've been through. They won't see the **** that turned to scars that began to fade with time. They won't see the heartbreaking things that shook up and changed your entire world. They won't know how many tears you cried or even what it was you were crying about. They won't see how strong you had to be because you had no other choice. What they will see though is how compassionate you are because you experienced pain. What they will see is how kind you are because you experienced how cruel the world is. What they will see is how good you are because you've seen how bad things or people can be. The difference between you and your experiences are who you choose to be, despite everything that could have turned you cold and unkind. You are the good the world needs and the best of us.” ~ Kirsten Corley

    Hi Emily
welcome ... I don't live with diagnosed anxiety but I know I have it. Exam time is hard and social situations I understand how hard that is. even in all the anxiety you have said some really positive things as well. You have done your A levels well done, you have started at work and even though there was anxiety problems you stuck with it and ye social event maybe not be your thing but you have opened up on her and that ... takes gut well done

    speak soon

    Abi
Some people think I am unhappy. I'm not. I just approach silence in the world that never stops talking.
