Hey shaunie, so sorry this has happened to you. I have been under section 2 before. Section 2 is where they can hold you against your will for up to 28 days. Then they will decide within these 28 days if you can be put as informal (there on your own free will), let out home or section 3 which is up to 6 months. Hope you get the support you deserve. Sending support your way.

    Hey Shaunie,

This must be a really rough experience, and I won't pretend to understand how it feels. That said, I can tell how understandably overwhelming things are right now, and we are here for you to talk things through with or to get things off your chest if you need to. *hug*

What Kayden said is totally right. If or when you do feel up to a bit of reading about things, we have some information on sectioning (and a really great video) here. For a bit more depth, Rethink have a great page that can give you a more thorough understanding of the different kinds of sectioning, your rights, etc. here.

I can really hear your frustration at the decision to section you and not giving you the support you feel you need. That disconnect between you and the mental health specialists around you must be really isolating. :(

That said, perhaps when you feel a bit more grounded, maybe there are some ways to bridge that gap and try and reach some mutual understandings about what you need. Open and honest communication is really important for any kind of support you receive, sectioning included, and engaging with that process is a great way to get yourself heard and open up some conversations with the people around you.

On that note, you're welcome to use this space to work on ways to do that or go over what you might say to them to get your feelings across, or equally just to vent about any of what's happening (whilst being mindful about mentioning any specific or potentially triggering details, of course :) ).

I realise it's super early days, so do keep us posted on how things go. I hope things settle down a little bit, but sending a huge amount of supportive vibes your way. *hug*

Im in a lot calmer place now. Thank you all for your replies. Today has been so horrible and stressful. They found me a bed, wherr i live but my sister work in a different ward, there so ill be moving soon.
I just want to leave, every one is so much older and i literally cant escape. Its like in prison. And the beds are so uncomfortable.
They just keep checking on me every 15 minutes. Im already so agitated and bored. I cant stand it

    Hi Shaunie,

I just wanted to pop in and wish you the best of luck. It sounds like it would be challenging to have so much supervision, but I would assume that as you become more stable you will get more freedoms, which is definitely something to work towards and look forward too! Maybe you can also discuss with the staff there about getting some activities to do so you don't get so bored. I hope things start to improve!

    Shaunie, why were you sectioned?

Are your friends aware of what's happened to you? Have any of them been to visit you?
  • SienaSiena Posts: 15,463 Skive's The Limit
Thank you all for your replies and support. I got sectioned because i was extremely suicidal and they didn't trust me to keep myself safe, by what i was saying. But its horrible, its so suffocating and am checked constantly. I cant even convice them im safe. Every one is manic and really alot older then me. And have creepy men talking to me. So all i can do is stay in bed.
I wouldnt tell my friends this. Ive just told them im sick.

Your friends don't know where you are?

Do you want to go home? If so, I believe there's some type of appeal/tribunal process where you can argue that you shouldn't be under section. I don't know the specifics of this - you'd need to contact some sort of advocacy service if you want to go down that road.

Yeah ive been told that but feels like to much effort

It's worth the effort if you want to go home. In addition, the support of the advocate may be useful to you after your release as well. The alternative is to tell the psychiatrist that you won't harm yourself if you're allowed to go home - if (s)he believes you, that might work. It's not unusual for a sectioning to be ended early. If you're still there at the end of the 4 weeks, the authorities may extend your section. In some cases, people are detained in psychiatric hospitals for years without being charged with any crime or taken to court. It's a human rights violation - taking innocent people away and detaining them without charge. If a person is suspected of a crime, police can only hold them without charge for a short time. The law against attempting suicide was abolished in 1961, yet people are still being locked up for it.

Im not going to be there for four weeks hopefully maximum of one. The procces to be sectioned was very long so i cant imagine how much effort thag would take for it might to not even work.
Ive spent most of my day trying to leave behind staff when they leave from the locked doors and run. But it hasnt been working.
Ive spent most of my day playing table tennis and arguing with staff.
They called me selfish. They didnt even say my thoughts where selfish, just that iam selfish. Which didnt makes sense because i mentally think im a burden to everyone so suicide would help them. Whether thats true or not, its still thinkjng about others and not myself.
So that caused a right scene. Im not sure if its wrong for them to call me that and if i can complain. Someone said i can. But im not sure??

It's highly unlikely that you'll be allowed to go home after only one week there.

Who wanted you to be sectioned? Who called the doctors and social worker to make it happen?
  • JustVJustV Community Manager Posts: 5,284 Part of The Furniture
    Hey @Shaunie ,

While @Robert isn't technically wrong - people do sometimes deceive doctors in order to get around treatment - it's really worth noting that it tends to be more counterproductive than anything else, both in terms of your relationships with the specialists around you and also often to your own wellbeing. Even though you and them might have different ideas about what you need in terms of support right now, with a bit of time and effort to understand each other a bit more there's a good chance you can find common ground that leads to real progress. It really is difficult to see things in a positive light when you feel so isolated and misunderstood, but ultimately the people there do want the best for you.

That being said, if one of the staff is treating you badly then you should have a right to speak up about that. I don't know the whole situation so it's tough to say whether you could formally complain, but if you want to tell someone then you should definitely be able to.

How are you getting on today? *hug*

I think it would be hard to get sectioned without good reasons because it went through so many people
He said he called me selfish to make me angry to speak more. But i dont normally get angry so that worked. But its done the opposite of making me say how i feel. I feel like everyone here is calling me names in their head. They are trying to make me speak but i cant now.
So today im stuck in my room just been waiting for them to charge my phone. They have changed 15 minute check up to 10. I cant stand it. Cant do anything without then knowing. Everyone is out of their rooms but they're all similar ages in like 30s-50s.
I to the point where im so agitated that i feel like crying. I cant even lay still. And its only been few days.
Thank you both. i will make that complaint.

Being on that ward is clearly making you feel worse. Do you want to go home? Would you be looked after if you went home?

If you don't want to go home, can you be moved to some type of rehab centre for people who have eating disorders? That would probably be more helpful and suitable - and you'd be around mostly young people who have similar problems.
  • SienaSiena Posts: 15,463 Skive's The Limit
its making me so worse. im starting to make friends which makes it a bit more bearable. but im starting to restict again because i feel like i have no control over it. im just being assessed and observed at the moment so hopefully ill get some treatment so. i have not much support at home.

As you don't have much support at home, the authorities will be unlikely to let you go back home soon. What do you think about my idea of going to a rehab centre for people with eating disorders? You said that you're anorexic, so it may be a more suitable place for you. It would be more of a community environment where they'll be a lot of girls in their teens and twenties (because they're the most likely to have eating disorders) - whereas the place you're in now is more like a prison.

I'd advise telling the psychiatrists about how you feel and that you recognise that you need help, but that being locked up with a bunch of strangers twice your age just makes you feel worse. It's the psychiatrists who make the decisions, not the nurses.

It's best not to tell people in hospital about your online activities, because they might look at what you've written and take a disliking to it.
  • SienaSiena Posts: 15,463 Skive's The Limit
i like that idea but that would be voluntary. ive already refused treatment so i dont think that would work. ive asked i can agree to be in hsopital now so its less like prison and can leave when i want but they wont let me. i think im just here because im at harm to myself overwise and they have to try and prevent suicides. even though i didnt attempt anything right before it all. i wouldnt tell anyone i know, i use this.?

What you need is to have your status changed to voluntary - then you can be moved to somewhere better. If you contact an advocacy service, they can visit you and represent you for free. They have the knowledge and experience that you need to deal with these matters.

    Hi Shaunie,

How are you feeling today? I'm so glad to hear that you're starting to make friends. You mentioned you were getting assessed a few days ago; what kind of support and treatment are you getting at the moment?
Although it's been hard, maybe this extra support will be the help you needed that wasn't available at home.
    Wishing you the best!

Ive only just settled but i have to move to different hospital today. Because theres finally a bed .My sister works here and she came in today and she got sent straight back home. Because people in the office could be talking about me and she can assess my notes at any time. So for confidentality its not allowed.
So now im just waiting for transport. Im not even getting any treatment so far so its basically pointless. Now ive got to try and make new friends and make it more bearable. Hopefully its an all female one.
But i feel calm today and less agitated. But still feel the same sort of feeling when i first came in.
