you are legally entitled to double time and the hours you work in Leiu (sp) on a bank holiday. i work part time in a leisure centre run by the local council therefore they HAVE to pay us,
but it seems to me that the owners of small businesses can do what they want...even tho its illegal...the best thing you can do is check with your local CAB

I dont think this is strictly true, although I am not sure, I dont think employers have to pay you double time and a day in leiu for working a bank holiday. I will be more than glad to hear I am wrong.

bank holiday pay

you are not entitled by law to bank holiday pay or even the bank holiday itself !

It depneds what your contract says.

You best bet is to join a union , you can pay by direct debit .

e.g.Usdaw costs 1.65 per week for fulltimers 1.10 part time their website is www.usdaw.org.uk:)

I was employed recently and my job agency consultant gave me a list of sites I should take a look at. Try this one below, it has many answers to questions concerning employment rights and issues...

Employment Rights

Hope that helps, I found it quite useful

Actually, if you didn't work on the Tuesday bank holiday then you are not entitled to any money at all! If you worked you are entitled to normal wage, unless your boss has agreed to give you double time or time and a half (whatever). Double time or paying employees who don't work for that Bank Holiday TUESDAY was optional and did not have to be observed.
