After the incident in America how safe do you all feel about travelling by plane these days? How many of you still feel as safe as before about plane travel, certainly how safe would you feel abotu plane travel to the US?

I have to admit I would have to think twice at the moment before I could get on a plane especially to the US, I guess alot of people feel the same way since the big cuts made in the airline industry...?

its not illegal til u get caught <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/mica/monkbum.gif">

I agree wit u. At the mo i wouldn't travel outside of the UK coz everything is still so uncertain @ the mo.

Maybe when/if everythings sorted i might feel differently.

Thing it - doesn't matter if it 'get's sorted' aeroplanes are only as safe as the people who fly them, the air traffic control and the passengers on them.

well... I sort of don't have a choice. I already have flights booked to Australia next monday, so I will be flying.
I think though, that with the tighter security on each plane, and the lack of metallic sharp objects that if someone did pull out a plastic knife and said 'this is a hi-jack' then I would be one of the first people jumping on them to stop them doing anything. (And believe me.. you don't want me jumping on you! I'm a bit big!)
A pilot in the US recently changed his opening speach by saying that if anyone does say there is a hijack, then the chances are, that there will be about 200 odd people against him. And, since he won't have a knife or a gun, then everyone should throw things at him - pillows, books, whatever to keep him off balance, until someone can cover his head in a blanket and hold him to the ground!
I figure that would be me...

Yup spose they r - and if terrorists take over and manage to fly them then they are anything but safe.

However due to heightened security i suppose not much will be allowed to slip through the net and so should be one of the safest times to fly.

Incidently what do people think to the idea that pilots are currently discussing about being able to carry a gun in the cockpit.
I feel that this in some resopects is a good idea.

I live in the US and I have to fly next week for a business meeting. I too felt that with the heightened security that it should actually be safer to fly now than ever.
Then my little boy said, "Don't go on the airplane mommy, you will die." It wasn't until then that I have thought about the consequenses of "what if".

Well coming from northern ireland i know all about hig security getting on a plane. Even so i still feel that this is what usually happens when someting like the events in america happen. People bang on about how unsafe planes r andhow they wont fly again but really planes r the safest form of travel in the world. If a terrorist wants to use any form of transport and they are the type of terrorist that carried out the attacks on america then no amount of security is gonna stop them. These people probably are the security, its pointless u will never be able to stop someone who is determined enough and has the resources, regardless of security measures.

High security in NI!
I've been to Ireland loads of times and the security is pants,
Pants in the republic and Pants at the Border.
I'm sure it's better now though.

i think that one was actually just a tragic accident.

tbh, i think that if we as a society were to start flying less in the long run, it would be seen as a victory for the terrorists. i'm not going to let them change my way of life.

i've never really enjoyed flying, although it is very useful. so it doesnt particularly bother me. or maybe i'm just stupid!
