Gap Year Travelling

Ok, I'm not actually taking a gap year until next year, but theres nothing wrong with planning ahead, and I'm sure there are other people doing similar things...

I would love to do a bit of travelling in my year off. At the moment I haven't been further afield than switzaland.
I've seen photos from when my friend went to Thailand, and that is top of my list of places to go.... it looks incredible.

But what I need to ask is: Where do other poeple want to go, or have gone to, in their gap year and why? Are there any tales of the parties in Thailand, the Treks in Nepal, or the rainforests of South America? And what about organisations that set you up to work in various countries for a year?

I've got a year to plan, and about 8 months worth of travelling, max.

    Hey,

I know exactly how you feel!!! I am personnaly planning for a gap year myself. I have been working in the hotel management field for the last couple of years, so essentially that's how I'm funding my gap year. I'm gonna take it one week at a time. I know that Canada has a working holiday visa with Australia that's valid for 1 year. The only thing you need to do for that is prove you have enough money in your bank account to return home. Personnaly, I am looking forward to travelling the mediterranean countries and Oz, maybe Thailand.

    Happy travels <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/wink.gif">

    Heya!
I'm off in Feb to JAPAN! Ok, its not the place where most gappers go but thats where me and about 50 others are going. We're all with GAP Activity Projects for 6 months, and its gonna be fab. I really can't wait, im working so hard at the mo, I do 10 hr days, in order to get the money but it will be worth it i know.

Good Luck to you two, where ever you go in the end!

    Love Jane xx <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">

i'm also going with GAP to China for 6 mths which should be wicked...
i would definitely recommend www.gapyear.com if you are starting to think about your gap year-it was set up by someone who went on a gap year and had such a good time that he set up a company to help other people make the best of their year. Tom Griffith (who founded the company) also wrote some good books about Gap years and travelling which I also rate pretty highly.

    if in doubt-dance.

I work for GAP Activity Projects. If you are 17 or 18 and are interested in working in teaching, conservation, caring or medicine, GAP offers four to twelve month placements in 33 countries round the world. If you want more information, look at our website www.gap.org.uk or email volunteer@gap.org.uk.

No offence, but GAP projects are a right rip off, making them only available to the well off. I looked up doing a project with them only to find out that they cost you hundreds of pounds. When you are willing to give up your time to work in another country I think it is wrong that someone is making money out of it!
