Teachers assuming too much

I don't know if I'm the only one that feels like this but do you guys think teachers just assume that everyone lives in a 2.4 type family? Ever since I've been back at college, all I've heard is ask your parents this, get your parents to sign that. It annoys the hell out of me

People assume things all the time. I think it's justified when they're true for the vast majority, as long as they're ready to accept that someone is an exception.

    Examples:
    That you're straight.
That your sex and gender are the same.
(Depending on your age) that you have at least one ex.
That you're not allergic to oranges, mushrooms, cats or any other thing.
    And many, many things more.

Are you annoyed about all these assumptions?

I'm sorry if I offended you?

What gave you the impression that you did? I don't see anything offensive in your post or any indication I was in mine, sorry if it seemed otherwise.

I simply asked a question that I think you should think about. And if your answer to that one is "No", then the next question is:
What is it about that particular assumption that annoys you when others don't?

I think I may just be getting a bit over sensitive with the assumptions.

Same here. But it's important to remember that if we had to ask everyone to confirm everything, society wouldn't function. Some assumptions are necessary.
