So, this is the first time I'm going to Uni and I'm aware many users on here have been, or are also planning to go, so I thought we'd make a list to see what kinda things we'd need to take to Uni if you're staying in halls.

I'll start off

- I.D (Passport)
- National Insurance Number

Clothes/underwear. Whichever electronics/chargers. Stationary. Photos of family? Some cutlery. Bank card. Shampoo/conditioner/soap.

There will be shops around though so you won't need to take too much :)

    kitchen stuff

get something to share like a cake or booze on the first day - it's a reason to meet and bond with people

a doorstop - to keep your door open so you can meet others more easily

    Stationary,

Really useful box's can be really useful. Not sure if I'll need to take a washing rack or something, or how else am I meant to dry my cloths?

    - Iron!!

    Stuff to keep you clean,

    - Shampoo
    - Hand wash for your bathroom
    - Toothbrush, and brace stationary
    - Toilet roll
    - Kitchen Role
    - Nail Clippers
    - Pins (My hall provides one of those wall things you can stick notes on, in your bedroom)
    - Paper clips, paper accessories

    Technology stuff
    - Phones
    - Tablets
    - Notebook/Laptop

    + Chargers, etc.

In the first week of uni there was just a constant stream of people coming out of Argos having bought washing racks! There are normally tumble dryers but ££££

Any fancy dress bits and bobs you already have
A pack of cards / other games
An extension lead in case you have limited sockets / awkwardly placed ones
    A dirty washing bag
    USB stick
Dressing gown (especially if you don't have ensuite bathroom)

I also have a shoe box with things like stamps, envelopes, post-it notes, pins, blue-tac, parcel tape, string etc in. Things that you probably have loads of lying around at home - saves buying a whole massive pack of envelopes for example.

Also a system to keep your important documents / letters safe and organised. I have a box file thing which works well for letters, contracts, receipts etc and a folder for important documents.

Money just in case student finance don't pay you on time. And you need money for freshers week.

This is a great suggestion - In halls we always had our doors propped open so you could just stick you head in and chat.

A few extra suggestions from my uni years (a while ago now though):

Any sports equipment/instruments etc if your planning on joining any clubs/orgs

Weekend size bag for when you visit friends at uni/home

Young persons rail card (sadly I am now too old for one of these!)

Anything that will make the place feel homely

A toastie sandwich maker - I swear when I went to uni everyone had one!

Passport photos - these are sometimes asked for during registration

Flu/cold medicines (in preparation for freshers flu :yuck:)

Don't buy brand new / expensive crockery, etc. - it will get lost or smashed.
