PC or no PC

I'm off to Manchester uni in September and I'm trying to decide whether or not to take my PC with me.
I know they have many there but I prefer to work at night. If I do take it, are the chances of it being stolen really high? Will I really need it for my first year, or would I be better off investing in a cheap laptop just for basic word processing etc...

    I took mine to Bradford. It hasn't been stolen (and I hope it won't be!).

    Yeah, just take the bloody thing!
    Make sure it's insured. I've always found that going to a computer centre is annoying (especially if all machines are busy).

    Most people here (whether they study computing like me, or whatever else) have brought a computer with them. I've seen the odd few in the library/comp centre at some very strange hours...
